Connections Healthcare Staffing is Hiring an Athletic Trainer High School Near Charlotte, NC

Our client, a large healthcare facility in the Charlotte, NC area, has a need for an Athletic Trainer to join their team. You will be working with a local high school. They are not considering new grads at this time. They do require at least 1 yr of experience working in a HS or college setting.

Evaluates, plans, directs, and administers programs of athletic training to restore function, prevent disability, and help athletes reach their maximum level of independence. The Athletic Trainer will provide medical coverage, support and direction to patients providing professional sports medicine care through prevention, evaluation, immediate care/treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries and sports related illnesses. Provides leadership and participates in continuing education. Works closely with other disciplines and specialties within the department and facility as well as with athletes and families to assure a cohesive approach to athlete care. The Athletic Trainer acts under the supervision of a physician and must adhere to the protocols and guidelines as required by the state licensing agency.

Candidates must live within 45 mins of the facility or plan to relocate there.

Essential Functions

  • Provide athletic training services to high schools and/or community sporting events as determined necessary in order to attain departmental goals of community service.
  • Provision of medical coverage will be based on the school practice and event schedule, primarily during afternoons and evening hours.
  • Establish and maintain effective professional working relationships.
  • Evaluates athletes and sports related injuries, designs, and implements athletic training for rehabilitation and reconditioning, establishes a care plan to include necessary activities and athlete education as warranted by the athlete's diagnosis and condition utilizing the departments policies and procedures and within the scope of practice and standards of care.
  • Determine appropriate therapeutic treatment and provide rehabilitation, and/or reconditioning strategies, and taping / wrapping and bracing for preventative and protective treatment.
  • Implement treatment program objectives including long and short-term goals and an appraisal of those which the patient can realistically be expected to achieve from the program. Assessment measures to determine the effectiveness of the program are incorporated into the program.
  • Gathers and interprets appropriate data from the medical record, physician, athlete, and/or family as evidenced by documentation.
  • Communicates athlete's evaluation and subsequent progress to physician, referral sources, and other clinical staff and coordinates athlete's schedule, treatment programs, discharge planning, and recommends solutions to athlete care problems.

Skills:

Must be able to push athletes in a wheelchair or stretchers. Lifting of athletes, equipment or supplies will be required up to 20 pounds frequently, up to 50 pounds occasionally, and up to 100 pounds rarely. Sitting, standing, and walking required throughout the day. Job duties sometimes require climbing stairs, kneeling, twisting, bending; on occasion, crouching, crawling, and reaching overhead. Must be able to transfer athletes. Must be able to demonstrate any appropriate exercise and activities to athletes/caregivers. Work is in a fast-paced clinical outreach environment primarily in an outdoor environment.

Education:

  • College graduate with BS, MS, or MA degree from a CAATE accredited program.
  • Current certification through the Board of Certification Inc. and licensed by the NC Board of Athletic Trainer Examiners and/or SC State Certification. Non primary state License/Certification within 90 days.
  • One year of experience as a high school or collegiate certified athletic trainer required.
  • Completion of American Heart Association Healthcare Provider or American Red Cross which includes CPR and AED training.
