Description

The Driver's Aide for Connecticut Transportation Solutions assists in the safe and pleasant transportation of children to and from school, vocational training's, medical appointments and residential facilities throughout the state.

Essential Responsibilities:

• Ensures the safety and well-being of children being transported to and from school on field trips and after school programs.
• Assists children board the van safely, including helping teachers prepare for departure (putting on coats and assuring that each child has his/her own belongings);
• Assuring that the driver is not distracted from the safe operation of the vehicle;
• Helping children safely get off the bus and into the custody (only) of those individuals authorized to receive them; and
• Retrieving any fallen objects during the bus ride.
• Follows and ensures mandated child restraint devise procedures, ensuring children are properly positioned and restrained.

Qualifications

• Must possess a High school diploma or GED.
• Successful experience in student transportation preferred.
• Ability to pass a background check and Department of Children’s and Families (DCF) credentialing.
• Knowledge of the challenges and care involved in cognitive disorders, mental illness, and autism.
• Must be physically able to step up and down steps, safely secure clients for transport, lift up to 50 lbs, and transport wheelchair patients on paved and unpaved surfaces.
