CONNECTICUT CHILDREN\ is Hiring a Physician Assistant/Neonatal Nurse Practitioner - Part Time - Meriden, CT Near Meriden, CT

  • The AP-NICU is accountable for delivering comprehensive quality patient care, including diagnostic and therapeutic interventions according to standards of practice to premature, newborn, term or sick infants during the neonatal period. This person will function as a member of an inpatient physician team within an integrated academic model.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

Treat and evaluate term and premature newborns who may present with neonatal illnesses and/or congenital anomalies and promote the health of the child and family.
Primary areas of care can include the NICU, Delivery Room and Well-Newborn Nursery within Connecticut Children's primary and partner hospitals ranging from Level I- Level IV newborn acuity as appropriate for the candidates level of training.
Respond to and appropriately manage life-threatening emergencies in the Delivery Room, the Well-Baby Nursery, the Emergency Room, and the Connecticut Children's Medical Center Neonatal Intensive Care Unit or its' affiliates.
Analyze medical histories, diagnostic lab test and x-ray results and perform physical examinations.
Perform and maintain competence in required procedures for each site of care as assigned; this may include umbilical vessel catheterization, endotracheal intubation, thoracostomy tube placement, neonatal resuscitation, lumbar puncture, percutaneous inserted central catheter placement, circumcision, venipuncture, IV placement.
Consult with attending physicians for appropriate patient referrals and monitor outcomes.
Coordinate patient care with team members, other departments and community agencies and providers as necessary.
Opportunity to participate as Neonatal Critical Care Team Transport Leader when competence established for this role. Function to identify, plan, implement, and evaluate the stabilization and emergency care of acutely ill neonates in collaboration with the medical control physician.
Practice preventive health care through patient and family education and child health advocacy.
Participate in teaching and learning in an integrated academic model.
Precepting of APRN/PA Graduate students and mentoring of newly hired APP team members.
Participate in peer review, development and consultation.
Participate in special programs and services as assigned.
Demonstrates knowledge of the age-related differences and needs of patients in appropriate, specific gestation populations and applies them to practice. Demonstrates cultural sensitivity in all interactions with patients/families.
Demonstrates support for the mission, values and goals of the organization through behaviors that are consistent with the Connecticut Children's STANDARDS.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for on-site collaboration for less experienced advanced practice providers and pediatric residents.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

KNOWLEDGE OF:
Knowledge and competence in use of EHR , currently Epic is preferred, but will train.
SKILLS

Commitment to providing pediatric healthcare in an urban community-based setting.
