Job Summary:
We are looking for a Splicing operations manager to join our growing team
Job Responsibilities (Including, but not limited to):
  • Works with Area Managers in WV to provide scheduling of copper and fiber splicers orders material and supplies as needed for projects
  • Position will cover the state of West Virginia, with overnight travel
  • The Operations Manager will be required to work in field as needed, expectation is 65% field, 35% office
  • Works closely with team members, works in field with team members as needed and trains
  • Helps to train employees in proper means and methods, this includes construction and testing best practices for both copper and fiber splicing
  • Pays site visits to team members to make sure that work is up to company standards from craftsmanship to safety
  • Leads/PM projects as needed
  • Arrange appropriate training for classes ranging from case preparation, splicing, testing, and climbing
  • Inventories material and supplies upon arrival to ensure that what has been ordered is correct.
  • Arranges delivery of material and supplies to project site
  • Participates in training modules provided by Corporate to further their knowledge in the Microsoft Suite of software
  • Keep current on certifications and best practices
  • Work with subcontractors on scheduling and quality control their work
  • Communicating project expectations to Customer, Project Managers, Lead Splicers/Splicers.
  • Plans, monitors, and reviews the installation during the construction phase
  • Reviews project costs and analyzes percentage of completion verses project cost
  • Works closely with customers to maintain expectations and timelines
  • Builds and maintains relationships with customers
  • Looks for new opportunities
  • Works with the Division Manager and Estimator on forecasting of work and manpower needs
  • Review of team members on a yearly basis, works with Division Manager for reviews and raises
  • Integral in the hiring process looks for new hires
  • Continually works to improve workflow and operations
  • Works closely with the Estimator to schedule manpower and material for projects
  • Attends weekly team meetings to discuss any issues, projects, manpower
  • Inspection cleanliness of company vehicles
  • Reviews employee timesheets on a weekly basis for being correct and submits them along with equipment sheets.
  • Works closely with the estimators to bid projects
  • Invoicing/Billing/WIP
  • Prior to invoicing/billing of projects verifies that all time and material is correct
  • Other duties as assigned
Required Skills:
  • Must have a minimum of 5 years of verifiable field experience in splicing fiber optics and 5 years copper experience.
  • A thorough understanding of splicing and testing both fiber and copper plant
  • Able to diagnose trouble in both fiber and copper plants
  • Strong people skills, team building, solid leadership skills
  • Willing to work nights/weekends as required (available 24/7)
  • Able to run a crew of 8-12 OSP splicers
  • Be organized
  • Able to work with customers and be able to maintain and build new
  • Able to teach craft to new employees
Technical
  • A thorough understanding of outside plant fiber including:
    • Planning- understanding customer’s needs, reading prints in a variety of different forms.
    • Project Manage- able to plan work activities and provide updates in a timely manner.
    • Review installations- once completed pay site visits to make sure splicing is up to our standards.
  • Be able to lead large cuts and throws for customers
  • Testing- understands both OTDR and Light Meter testing, able to put together test results as requested by customer
  • Splicing- understands proper means and methods of setups for OSP and ISP installations
  • Material- understand splicing needs and be able to stock material for splicers

  • Understanding of Microsoft Office and computer related programs
  • Ability to be a problem solver
  • Works well with a team
