A. POSITION PURPOSE
The Director for Finance (Director) will work as part of a team of problem solvers, helping to solve complex business issues from strategy to execution. Under the general direction of the Executive Director/Administration Officer for University Relations Operations (ED), the Director will assist in all aspects of developing and managing the division operating budget, lead macro/micro level budget planning efforts and manage Workday Financials and other systems. Specific responsibilities include: financial management, reporting, analysis, and forecasting. Additional key skills include strategic thinking, concept synthesis, and project management.
Reporting directly to the Executive Director/Administration Officer for University Relations (ED), the Director is responsible for providing finance and accounting leadership to the University Relations division. In this role, the Director will support of all aspects of the Workday Financials ecosystem. In addition, this person is expected to take on a critical role of partnering with the Vice President for University Relations, Senior Leadership, UR budget managers, unit leaders and University Finance Office to leverage the Workday platform to direct sound decision making in the planning, managing and allocation of resources.
Specific duties include but are not limited to:
B. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Finance and Budget Management
Lead and manage the development and implementation of the annual budget planning process for a multimillion dollar division operating budget.
Monitor and oversee department budget management in collaboration with the Vice President for University Relations, Executive Director, and UR Senior Leadership and department managers.
Supervises all financial activities including audits, preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports; oversees division budgets in consultation with VPUR, Executive Director and UR Senior Leadership Team and others.
Partner with the Director to improve reporting, analyses and budget forecasting
Analyze and present financial reports in an accurate, clear and timely manner
Advise and consults with individual unit executive director/budget manager regarding revenue and expenses for their areas; provides analysis of actual department costs relative to budget and forecasts.
Independently identify and perform critical analyses, develop recommendations, and generate standardized projection reporting and long term financial modeling.
Play an active role in formulating department budget policies, controls, work flow processes, as well as communicating information to the University Relations community and others.
Actively partner with University Finance Office, unit leaders and others to project monthly and annual financial performance to improve business planning
Maintain a high level of confidentiality.
Ensures timely delivery of accurate financial reports including variances, accrued expenses for future year, and a forecast of expenses that highlights anticipated variances and key drivers.
Manage timely processing of all payments, invoices, and expense requests for the division staff, contractors, and other UR constituents.
Manage all aspects of administering, preparing, reviewing, monitoring, and allocating new funding requests.
Collaborate with University Finance Office, establish an ongoing comprehensive training program to educate UR staff regarding Workday Finance tools, policies and procedures
Ensure communication and cooperation with the appropriate units at both the division and University levels.
Ensures compliance with the University's financial policies and procedures; serves as the primary interface with the University Finance Office.
Encourage a healthy, fair and inclusive work environment to promote diversity, teamwork and collaboration.
Assist in the coordination of the fiscal year end reconciliation.
Attend UR meetings; serve on campus committees and attend campus meetings as requested and required.
Other Duties:
Prepare financial management reports.
Work with others to ensure related processes flow effectively and efficiently.
Utilizing available technology, review policies and procedures and propose changes to improve effectiveness in executing responsibilities.
Continue to develop expertise with available technology.
Other tasks as assigned.

D. GENERAL GUIDELINES
Recommends initiatives and implements changes to improve quality and services.
Identifies and determines cause of problems; develops and presents recommendations for improvement of established processes and practices.
Maximizes productivity through use of appropriate tools; planned training and budget initiatives.
Researches and develops resources that create timely and efficient workflow.
Prepares progress reports; informs supervisor of project status; and deviation from goals.
Ensures completeness, accuracy and timeliness of all operational functions.
Prepares and submits reports as requested and required.
Develops and implements guidelines to support the functions of the unit.
E. QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. This position requires the ability to effectively establish and maintain cooperative working relationships within a diverse multicultural environment.
1. Knowledge
At least 6-8 years of a combination of Workday financials, experience in accounts payable, accounts receivable, suppliers, financial accounting
Direct knowledge of accounting concepts and operations
Strong knowledge of budget management practices.
Experience in the use of technology to illustrate complex financial reports, comparisons, impact studies
Understanding of effective and efficient practices for multiple areas of alumni, external relations and development operations.

Experience in significantly contributing to budget planning and execution.
Demonstrated success in developing and managing programs and an in-depth understanding of the advancement profession.
