POSITION: WIC Certifier 

SALARY: $20.00

REPORTS TO: WIC Coordinator 

LOCATION: WIC Certifier ; Nespelem, Washington

Basic Functions:The primary responsibilities of this position are to administer and maintain the Colville Confederated Tribes Women, Infant and Children Program (WIC) as outlined by State and Federal regulations with minimal supervision. The position is responsible for assessing pregnant and breastfeeding women, infants, and children under five years of age for eligibility to participate in the WIC program. Duties include, but are not limited to performing anthropometrics and biochemical measurements, evaluating diet and health care needs, assigning a food package appropriate to the needs of the client, and providing education and referrals appropriate to the risk criteria identified. The WIC Certifier will participate in program planning activities, selection and evaluation of grant goals and outreach. Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Training: 

  • Requires High School Diploma or GED and nutrition training or experience and/or experience working with children and infants. Experience working with computers is essential and reception experience helpful.
  • Require a valid driver’s license.
  •  Medical Assistant-Registered, currently, or obtained within 90 days of employment. 
  • Paraprofessional Competent Professional Authority (P-CPA) designation or a qualified health professional as defined by WIC guidelines, or complete the P-CPA competencies within 6 months of employment.
  • TB Testing: As a condition of employment, employees who directly interact with vulnerable populations such as elders or youth are required to have a tuberculin skin test or have a chest x-ray with a negative result.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

  • Must be able to become competent in the WIC software
  • Requires knowledge of the principles of nutrition, health promotion and prevention Ability to participate in continuing education
  • Requires knowledge and experience working with families and/or young children
  • Must have knowledge of and be comfortable in promoting breastfeeding
  • Must adhere to the professional and ethical code of conduct modeling a healthy lifestyle, free of non-prescribed drugs and alcohol during term of employment
  • Requires ability to interact positively with vulnerable persons of various cultures and backgrounds Ability to communicate ideas clearly, orally and in writing
  • Requires ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with THP staff, representatives from agencies/organizations and other service groups in the community, other professionals and the public.
  • Requires ability to exercise initiative, tact, discretion and judgment in carrying out position responsibilities.
  • Requires ability to work independently with minimal supervision and assistance.
  • Requires ability to follow or give complex (written/oral) instructions
  • Requires ability to meet and deal with the public in a pleasant and courteous manner, and at times in stressful situations
  • Must be able to work with vast diversity of people with a non-judgmental attitude
  • Requires demonstrated the ability to maintain STRICT confidentiality
  • Must be able to function indoors in an office environment engaged in work of primarily a sedentary nature. 
  • Requires ambulatory ability to sit for extended periods of time, to utilize microcomputers and peripheral equipment, and to move about various campus locations.
  • Requires the ability to use near vision to read printed materials.
  • Requires auditory ability to carry on conversations in person and over the phone. 
  • Requires the ability to retrieve work materials from overhead, waist, and ground level files.
  • Requires sustained repetitive motions and manual and finger dexterity to write, use a pointing device, keyboard at an acceptable, operate microcomputer, and operate other office equipment.

Note: Pursuant to Tribal Policy, if this position is safety sensitive it is subject to pre-employment drug testing. In addition, this position is subject to reasonable suspicion and post-accident drug testing.

TRIBAL MEMBER AND INDIAN PREFERENCE WILL APPLY; PREFERENCE WILL ALSO BE GIVEN TO HONORABLY DISCHARGED VETERANS WHO ARE MINIMALLY QUALIFIED.

If required of this position, you must possess and maintain a valid Washington State driver’s license and be eligible for the Tribes’ Vehicle Insurance. In addition, this position may be subject to pre-employment background clearances. If applicable, these clearances must be maintained throughout employment.
