Salary/Wage: $36.37 per hour

INTRODUCTION:

This position provides planning and management coordination for Cultural events such as Pow Wows, Parade, Culture Camp, and Run to the Rogue, hosts groups at Dance House, and classroom education.

This position participates with other cultural staff in site protection, repatriation and NAGPRA. This position also manages the Individual Cultural Activity Awards and is responsible for helping the membership expend their awards.

DUTIES:

  • Develops, prioritizes and implements project plans, including customer promotion program, press events and activities.
  • Coordinate Annual Pow Wow events, Culture events, Pow Wow Committee meetings and other activities.
  • Compiles estimated cost, budgets and prepares management reports.
  • Assist in theme, demo, and exhibit space layout development for booths & vendors.
  • Plan for improvements and upgrades to existing powwow grounds and facilities. 
  • Sets up and reviews transportation itineraries.
  • Assists in creation of internal & external promotional pieces.
  • Coordinates registration and payment procedures, promotional advertising and mailing and Tribal sponsorship of activities.
  • Manages on site staffing and registration.
  • Determines appropriates responses to problems and emergencies.
  • Provides project status updates.
  • Maintains customer database and generates internal database information, such as singers, drumming groups, vendors and instructors.
  • Notifies program participants of location assignments.
  • Ensures all check requests, travel forms, purchase orders, and payroll forms are routed to the Accounting department on a timely basis.
  • Coordinates cultural classes with tribal members quarterly.
  • Plans, prepares and organizes cultural education activities and presentations.
  • Provides resources for schools and universities in Native American Culture.
  • Develops curriculum for Tribal and American Indian classes and presentations.
  • Participates with cultural staff in meetings and field investigations for disturbances of burial and cultural sites and any ground disturbances for construction purposes.
  • Supervises event staff.
  • Assists with tribal culture program activities and events to create a cultural presence and opportunities to educate and share tribal culture, as approved by supervisor.

Requirements

REQUIREMENTS:

High School diploma or GED and four years’ experience in events planning.

Knowledge in:

  • Pow Wows, Native etiquette and events protocols.
  • Accounting and inventory control procedures.
  • Siletz Tribal tradition, customs and etiquette.
  • Siletz Tribal history, treaties, ceded lands & reservation. 
  • Repatriation, site protection and tribal, state, federal law.
  • Hiring laws, practices and contractual work.
  • Budgetary development and practices.

Experience in:

  • Supervising, hiring and coordinating staff, volunteers and groups.
  • Software programs such as Access, Power Point, Excel and Word.
  • Fundraising, organizing, and directing social events.
  • Raffle sales, prize development, solicitation and experience in sales, price development and fundraising. 
  • Experience in events coordination, marketing and customer service.
  • Presentations to large groups

Ability to:

  • Organize and direct cultural presentations, and cultural events.
  • Work with a wide variety of people, including tribal, local, state, federal agencies, law enforcements, fire departments, schools, universities and the business community with diplomacy at all times.
  • Organize and coordinate large-scale events. 
  • Supervise staff & contract workers.
  • Effectively communicate with membership, community and agencies.
  • Communicate effectively using both verbal and written skills.

Other:

  • Must possess a valid Oregon State driver's license, insurance and be eligible to drive a GSA vehicle.
