Conexio Care ACT—Vocational Specialist

Today, Conexio Care serves as one of Delaware’s largest nonprofits, collaborating with government, community, corporate, and other philanthropic partners to maximize services for our state’s most vulnerable The Program Ambassador is a member of the clinical team who assists clients and guests in gaining access to safe, timely, and quality services.

The Vocational Specialist assists individuals to find and keep competitive employment by developing community-based, competitive jobs and assisting with the placement, training, and retention of persons served in those jobs. The Vocational Specialist assists assigned service recipients to attain improved financial literacy and to manage public benefits. S/he assists each service recipient to develop a personalized strategic plan for employment that helps him/her to advance to improve financial stability and self-sufficiency.

Duties of the position:

  • Develops community relationships with employers in the public and private sectors with the intention of creating job placement opportunities for persons served.
  • Conducts vocational assessments for assigned persons served using approved assessment tools and techniques.
  • Provides individualized assistance to each assigned service recipient to identify training, education and employment options that meet his/her needs in the present and for future development.
  • Works with staff from the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation to assist service recipients who are eligible to receive all available supports.
  • Meets targets for required number of employment placements and closures per month as identified by annually established performance measures for each site and program.
  • Provides direct on-site and off-site consultation, direct assistance, job coaching, mentoring, and coaching to help persons served to obtain and maintain employment.
  • Participates in the development of a job bank for use by all Employment Specialists in the agency, broadening the range of jobs available for persons served to choose from.
  • Works with other members of the treatment team and staff from DVR (as applicable) to develop an individualized rehabilitation plan, which is integrated into the overall treatment plan and includes a clinically viable community-based work for assigned persons served.
  • Works with entitlements’ specialists to assist persons served to address issues related to the maintenance and/or conversion of Social Security and other benefits to promote ongoing employment.
  • Provides training to service recipients in financial literacy and assists them to explore options for obtaining financial stability such as opening a bank account and/or an Individual Development Account (IDA).

Required Education and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant clinical or educational field
  • at least one year’s experience in a mental health setting is preferred.
  • three years’ experience, with in-service training, may be substituted.
  • Sales and marketing training and experience is preferred.
  • CPR and First Aid
  • Experience with underserved populations preferred
  • Excellent communication skills and organizational skills
  • Excellent ability to work with clients with substance abuse, co-occurring and/or mental health disorders

Additional Qualifications:

  • Computer knowledge of MS Office, and other HR applications is a plus, not required.
  • Possess strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be proactive, organized, and possess great follow-up skills.
  • Must have the skill/ability to collaborate, partner with, and provide exceptional customer support to a variety of affiliate partners within the organization.
