Concrete Jungle is Hiring an Inventory and Distribution Coordinator Near Atlanta, GA

About Us

Concrete Jungle (CJ) forages, farms, and supports food access across Georgia. To achieve that mission, our team distributes excess produce from fruit trees and farms throughout the region; grows and distributes food from our own farm; and provides nutrition education resources. We envision a future where all communities are well nourished in a world with no food waste. As of December 2023, Concrete Jungle has distributed over 2 million pounds of fresh, nutritious food.

This position primarily supports our Produce Buyers Club program (PBC), which sources excess produce from local farmers and redistributes it to hunger relief organizations. Started as an informal buying group in 2020, PBC is now the largest way CJ is minimizing food waste and providing healthy produce to communities who need it. In 2023, CJ moved 242,454 pounds of produce to 23 organizations through PBC. The majority of this produce is sourced from south Georgia farms, moving through our warehouse in East Point where organizations either pick up orders or deliveries are dispatched in our van or reefer truck.

About You

Concrete Jungle is seeking highly skilled and diverse candidates for our part-time Inventory and Distribution Coordinator role. In this role, you will work with other members of the CJ team to continue delivering excellent service and produce to our PBC buying organizations. Specifically, you will take the lead on processing and distributing weekly orders, and overseeing all inventory that comes through our East Point warehouse. You will play a critical part in ensuring our partners have the produce they need for their clients, when they need it. For this new role, we need someone who is passionate about managing and delivering quality products; ruthlessly committed to fine details and time management; and enjoys the physical labor and customer service aspects of this work.

This position will range from 10-25 hours most weeks, with the possibility for more hours during heavy order weeks. You ideally will start mid-April at lower hours for training weeks with regular weekly hours beginning by mid-May.

Primary Responsibilities

Manage all physical aspects of processing and distributing PBC orders and other donated produce, including:

● Sort, pack and label orders based on packing lists.

● Occasionally supervise volunteers providing support with order preparation.

● Transport orders in the warehouse using pallet jacks and other equipment.

● Facilitate produce order pick ups at, and deliveries from, Concrete Jungle’s warehouse to buying agencies. Keep track of and return order paperwork to the office and file appropriately.

● Coordinate with the PBC team to navigate order changes, inventory issues, and to close out orders.

● Pick up and distribute recurring produce donations from local farms and other sources.

Assume responsibility for inventory and warehouse management. This includes:

● Receive incoming produce deliveries from farms, counting inventory received and reporting accurate numbers back to other PBC staff.

● Occasionally drive the reefer truck to Georgia farms to procure produce and deliver it to the CJ warehouse.

● Organize pallets and produce to maximize storage space in the walk-in cooler.

● Perform quality control checks on all inventory, culling produce and updating PBC staff on inventory changes as necessary.

● Ensure all food safety and procedures are followed and regulations are met as produce is being handled.

● Maintain work areas and equipment in a clean and orderly manner.

● Support supplies being gathered, rented, and delivered to the proper locations in advance of volunteer events.

Qualifications

You have compelling experience contributing to complex programs and initiatives and you are no stranger to hard physical work. To be successful in this role, you must be:

● Self-driven: You have superior organizational skills, integrity with your word and your time, and great follow-through on all facets of your work. You demonstrate a great level of personal responsibility for achieving results, define broadly what is within your control, and are exceptionally optimistic about what is possible. You take initiative to do what it requires to achieve success.

● A meticulous creator: You have a deep commitment to accuracy and an impeccable eye for details. You’re someone who is excited and comfortable to find a path where none yet exists, to identify new solutions to persistent challenges, and to locate your agency in getting something done, even when it might initially seem like you’re at the whim of other factors.

● Flexible and adaptive: When plans change or a project goes in a new direction, you meet that moment with excitement to problem-solve and don’t lose sight of how the work connects to our overall mission. We strive to improve a complicated food system, and you maintain an enthusiastic and positive personality despite adversity in this formidable task.

● A strategic thinker, planner, and operator: You can easily take an idea, build upon it, and execute. Your approach to projects is to break it down into smaller, manageable pieces and ruthlessly prioritize what is most important, and you support your team to do the same.

● Driven by outcomes: You have an incredibly strong track record of achieving ambitious goals despite obstacles, and have experience doing so in complex situations with diverse teams.

You also must have the following experience and abilities. We understand and embrace the variety of ways through which people gain experiences, whether through professional, personal, educational, or volunteer opportunities.

● Valid driver's license and experience driving larger vehicles. Must have experience with at least a passenger van and willingness to drive up to a 26 foot box truck; prior experience with trucks that size is a plus.

● Physical ability to lift 50 pounds without strain on your own (note- loading and unloading orders will occasionally require lifting dozens of cases of produce at a time).

● Ability to work a flexible schedule outside of normal business hours.

● One year of experience in operations, delivery logistics, inventory management, general warehouse management or other related positions.

● Availability weekday mornings with occasional afternoons, especially Mondays and Wednesdays

Preferred candidates will also have:

● Some availability most weekdays

Compensation & Benefits

$20/hour. The following benefits will be made available if position maintains an average of 20 hours or more per week: paid time off, halftime pay for holiday closures, healthcare contributions, and professional development opportunities.

How to Apply

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled. Email your responses to the following questions and your resume highlighting your relevant experience to pbc@concrete-jungle.org with “Inventory and Distribution Coordinator” and your name in the subject line.

● If you were a type of produce, which fruit or vegetable would you be and why?

● Describe an operations focused initiative or process you fully owned that you are most proud of.
