Concordia University Irvine is Hiring a Financial Aid Counselor Near Irvine, CA
- Report to the Director of Financial Aid
- Work closely with members of the Athletics department, co-curricular programs, as well as other members of the Financial Aid department
- Package incoming undergraduate and all athletes (incoming and returning) students by following federal, state, NCAA and Concordia University policies and procedures.
- Use Banner for all financial aid processes
- Use ARMS for NCAA athletic compliance processes
- Responsible for all aspects financial aid related to NCAA
- Use government websites to review student information i.e. Web Grants, COD, FSA, NSLDS, etc.
- Counsel students and families
- Process incoming financial aid documents with efficiency to make sure students’ files are completed and processed in a timely manner
- Manages the undergraduate student verification process (includes athletes)
- Process Professional Judgment appeals in regards to special family circumstances and communicate the results to undergraduate students
- Assist with admission new student initiatives (Open House, etc.)
- Assist with other related financial aid duties as mutually agreeable with the Director of Financial Aid
- Other duties as may be assigned from time to time
- Bachelor’s degree from a four year college or university;
- Two to three years’ related experience and/or training;
- Or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Know CUI, conference and NCAA rules and regulations to ensure compliance with departmental, university, conference and national policies
- Creative aptitude
- Ability to be flexible to changing conditions and needs

- Ability to work independently
- Ability to work under stressful conditions
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills with the ability to counsel students and families
- Proficient in English: spelling, grammar, writing and speaking
- Ability to input computer data and evaluate/compare results
- Willingness to learn new or additional job-related tasks
- Awareness that behavior and dress should be appropriate for the environment of a Christian university
- Computer skills, including the software used in this office
- Respect and maintain confidentiality on matters pertaining to the Financial Aid Office
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals
- Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs
- Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form
- Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
- Exemplify Christian philosophy of the Concordia University mission statement in all aspects of day-to-day duties and responsibilities assigned to this position
- Be an individual of prayer and Christian maturity
- Receive faculty, staff, students and families with warmth and understanding
- Manifest loyalty to the other personnel of Concordia
