The Music Department at Concordia University Irvine announces a part-time position in:

A/V Operations Coordinator

STARTING DATE: July 18, 2022

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Serve as the head of a student-worker team that provides A/V services (and basic lighting) for the following Music Department events: recitals - noon, guest artist, faculty, and student recitals, music concerts, except those assigned to Audio Visual Engineer, special rehearsals, lectures/masterclasses

• Manage a time-effective system to make recordings available within the department with as little need for editing as possible. Recordings should be uploaded to an agreed-upon cloud platform that is easily accessed by musicians without need to download cumbersome files.
• Manage the A/V student worker team: recruiting, training, establishing standards and protocol, assigning events and file processing.
• Manage video files for public online viewing of music director-approved archived/streamed music events.

SCOPE OF WORK:

Within a work period consisting of 18 weeks per semester:

REGULAR OFFICE HOURS

Work is budgeted at 15 hours per week. The work period runs for 18 weeks, including the Fall semester, and 18 weeks, including the Spring semester.

• Office hours consisting of two 4-hour days (8 hours). These are to be scheduled at the same time each week.
• 3 additional hours for weekly at-home work (including email communication on the non-office days).
• An average of one event per week (1-3 hours). Other events should be delegated to student workers. The work duration of typical events will consist of the duration of the event itself plus one additional hour. Event days/times might occur outside normal business hours.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

• Bachelor's degree
• Demonstrable proficiency in recording, editing, and archiving sound/video, including digital applications.

GENERAL INFORMATION: Concordia University Irvine offers an excellent liberal arts education in the Lutheran tradition for approximately 4000 students, 1500 of whom are undergraduates. Music ensembles perform in Segerstrom Concert Hall for Christmas and other major halls on tours. An annual PBS Christmas special airs nationwide (one of the most widely-distributed collegiate Christmas specials on PBS). Concordia has a wind orchestra, symphony orchestra, jazz ensembles, chamber ensembles, Americana Ensemble, Commercial Music Ensemble, 4 choirs, 2 handbell groups, and several worship bands. Students may study any standard orchestral or church instrument with superior professional faculty performers.
