JOB TITLE:
Color Guard and Dance Director

TYPE OF POSITION: Classified and/or Certified

REPORTS TO: Director of Music


POSITION PURPOSE
: Directs and coordinates all aspects of instruction and performance for all Concord color guard and dance students in various ensembles at all grade levels.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.

  • Supervise all aspects of instruction and performance for all Concord color guard and dance students in the various ensembles involving Concord students including: (1) high school marching band, (2) winter guard/dance competitions, and (3) color guard/dance recital and other performance venues not limited to, but including Concord’s Christmas Spectacular and Concord’s Carnival Variety Show.
  • Daily instruction will be approximately 3. 5 hours per school day and additional 3 to 4 hours some evenings and 8 to 12 hours on weekends. In addition, summer instruction will occur at two guard camps, band camp, and evening summer band camp.
  • Teach Concord students various skills involved in color guard and dance and supervise their activities.
  • Provide management for all color guard and dance guard equipment.
  • Provide or secure maintenance for all color guard and dance equipment.
  • Provide assistance to the directors of each performing ensemble.
  • Provide color guard and dance choreography as needed for special arrangements.
  • Assist in the artistic development of the high school marching band show.
  • Develop a color guard and dance program in the Concord Community Schools, which would consist of a Cadet team, Junior High team, High School Junior Varsity team, and a High School Varsity team.
  • As time permits, other teaching/performance activities outside of Concord Schools are permitted as long as the role of Color Guard and Dance Instructor for Concord is not diminished.
  • Perform other duties as directed by the Director of Music.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Appropriate certification from the Indiana Department of Education preferred, but not required.
  • Ability to organize, supervise, manage, and teach Color Guard and Dance.
  • Ability to work with people including students, faculty, and the general public.
  • A musical, dance, color guard aptitude and love of teaching.
  • A willingness to work flexible hours.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with groups of students and parents.
  • Other qualifications as deemed desirable by the School Board of Trustees.

  • The employee should be able to use the following machines, tools, equipment, and work aids which may be representative, but not all inclusive, of those commonly associated with this type of work: pen, pencil, pointer, stylus, projector, public address system, portable stereo, marker board, charts, diagrams, examinations manual, maps, publications, reference books, textbooks, and computers.
  • The employee must be able to tolerate being outdoors for extended periods of time in varying, sometimes extreme temperatures.
