CoreFirst Bank Trust is Hiring a Business Intelligence (BI) Data Analyst Near Topeka, KS

Description

Hours: 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday

Role: The BI Data Analyst is a crucial member of the Data and Analytics team, responsible for analyzing and transforming large data sets to generate actionable business insights. This role involves defining data requirements, performing statistical modeling, and ensuring the integrity and accuracy of data systems. The analyst will engage in the full analysis lifecycle – from requirement gathering to execution and planning – to support strategic decision-making. Working closely with all levels of management, the BI Data Analyst plays a key role in enhancing our data-driven strategies and improving business operations.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Collect, process, analyze, and visualize data to produce actionable business insights
  • Contribute to strategic decision-making for improving efficiency and customer experience
  • Collaborate with internal teams to gather and curate data for analysis and reporting
  • Create and communicate reports, dashboards, and insights to stakeholders and leadership
  • Translate technical data insights into easily understandable information for non-technical audiences
  • Develop and optimize SQL queries, stored procedures, and forecasting models
  • Support data literacy by guiding teams on data-driven decision-making
  • Identify opportunities for improved processes, data, or technology to optimize analysis projects
  • Analyze business operations, customer data, and trends to enhance business intelligence
  • Work with leadership to identify and prioritize improvement opportunities
  • Establish KPIs and interpret data to inform business outcomes and strategies
  • Plan and prioritize data initiatives to ensure high-quality outputs aligned with business goals
  • Support other teams with insightful reporting to guide the business
  • Synthesize and present data in a clear actionable manner for business improvement
  • Provide solutions to stakeholders’ business challenges

Requirements

Competencies & Knowledge:

Required:

  • Expertise in sourcing, profiling, and cleansing raw data
  • Familiarity with data warehousing, data cleaning, and analytical techniques
  • Understanding of database concepts, data flows, and structures (e.g., Tableau, Power BI)
  • Skilled in data models, design tools, statistical programming languages, and data queries
  • Proficient in statistical analysis (e.g., central tendency, variance, regression)

Desired but not required:

  • General understanding of accounting principles and techniques
  • In-depth knowledge of the banking industry and business operations
  • Familiarity with banking policies, procedures, and automation

Skills & Abilities:

Analytical Skills

  • Advanced SQL and Excel skills, with mastery in reporting and data visualization tools
  • Ability to transform data into meaningful insights and visualize findings effectively
  • Competence in storytelling with data and conveying insights to various stakeholders
  • Understanding of advanced statistical analysis, predictive modeling, and machine learning

Technical Skills

  • Experience with programming languages such as R, Python, and SAS
  • Familiarity with database management software and data analytics platforms

Soft Skills

  • Strong oral and written communication skills, translating technical findings for non-technical stakeholders
  • Leadership qualities, taking ownership of projects from inception to completion
  • Collaborative, effectively working across different teams and stakeholders

Personal Abilities

  • Analytical problem solver with a curious mindset and passion for data
  • Self-sufficient, adaptable to new tools and methodologies
  • Able to prioritize workloads, manage deadlines, and handle high-pressure situations

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Management, Mathematics, Engineering, Economics, Finance, or a comparable quantitative discipline
  • Certifications in programming languages, data analytics tools, or relevant methodologies (e.g., Data Analytics, Tableau, Power BI, machine learning) are advantageous

Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years in Business/Financial Analysis, BI Engineering, or BI Analysis, preferably in a financial institution
  • 2-3 years of experience coding in SQL
  • 2-3 years of experience building analytics, using BI tools like Power BI or Tableau

Preferred:

  • 3-5 years of experience in data mining (e.g., SQL, ETL, complex data warehouses)

Interpersonal Skills: A high level of trust, diplomacy, courtesy, and tact is crucial in this role. The work involves extensive personal interactions, often of a sensitive nature, especially when handling escalations. It’s essential to empathize with others and build strong relationships.

Travel: Travel is negligible. It is primarily local during the business day, although some local evening and weekend travel may be needed.

Work Environment: This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copy machines, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
