Comstock Park School District is Hiring an INTERNAL - Speech Pathologist - End of School Year Near Comstock, MI

Comstock Park is seeking candidates who display a strong desire and ability to make an impact on students and the greater community both within and outside of the classroom.

SUMMARY

Public school Speech and Language Pathologists are communication specialists who work with general and special education students with language and/or articulation deficits, dysfluencies, or voice disorders.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides direct and indirect therapy/service to students or groups of students with IEPs using a continuum of service delivery options. 
  • Evaluates students for initial and ongoing Special Education eligibility and functional communication.
  • Uses ongoing assessment/data collection to determine effectiveness of intervention. 
  • Completes mandated paperwork, collects and records student progress data, completes report cards, completes daily service logs, maintains parent contact logs, completes IEP paperwork and collects and reports information to a third-party billing agency (Medicaid service logs and Random Moments) within appropriate timelines. 
  • Attends, participates in or coordinates Multidisciplinary Team conferences, Individualized Educational Program/Evaluation Review Plan meetings, Parent-Teacher meetings.
  • Trains/coaches/monitors other adults working with students (paraprofessionals, aides, teachers, etc.) on specific procedures related to speech therapy instruction. 
  • Monitors students’ progress. 
  • Observes students and recommends adaptations to the environment, curriculum and delivery of instruction to assure progress in the student’s least restrictive environment. 
  • Researches/orders/prepares/adapts/provides assistive technology and equipment or materials to meet the communication needs of the student in all school settings (classroom, lunchroom, hallway, bathroom, playground, bus, gym, etc.). 
  • Communicates and collaborates with other agencies, therapists and physicians regarding student. 
  • Collaborates with parents to access resources or provides home activities to support the student progress. 
  • Performs assigned duties related to Response to Intervention (RtI) in the classroom and buildings. 
  • Serves at multiple buildings as needed or directed. 
  • Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or his/her designee. 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Master’s Degree in speech and language pathology.
  • Minimum of 60 semester hours of academic credit in normal aspects of human communication development and clinical techniques for evaluation and management of speech and language disorders.
  • Minimum of 300 clock hours of supervised practicum experience with persons who present a variety of communication disorders, to be acquired in conjunction with academic training, 150 hours of which are at graduate level.
  • Any other MDE mandated qualifications.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS - Michigan certification as Speech Pathologist.

COMPENSATION: In accordance with the master agreement between Comstock Park Educational Employees Association and the Comstock Park Board of Education.

The final candidate for this position will be required (at their cost) to furnish the district with a current Michigan State Police and FBI criminal records LiveScan check prior to our recommendation to hire.
