General description

We are looking for individuals who have experience in journey level appraisal work, data collection and analyses as required to complete Methods and Assistance (MAP) reviews, including reviews of properties.

This position may be eligible for a flexible/hybrid work schedule if certain conditions are met; working arrangements may change at any time as business necessitates. The selected candidate will work remotely from their home.

Qualifications


Required Experience:

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor’s degree.
  • Four (4) years of experience working as an appraiser or as a supervisor in a Texas appraisal district or as an auditor/reviewer of appraisal district operations or in an appraisal-related environment, including but not limited to performing MAP reviews, appraisal standards reviews, performance audits, methods, standards and procedure reviews, independent reviews through contract, or equivalent auditing or performance review experience.

Preferred Experience:

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor’s degree in appraising, auditing, business administration, economics, finance, government, liberal arts, or real estate is preferred.
  • Two (2) or more years of experience as a director or deputy chief or chief appraiser of an appraisal district
  • One (1) or more years of experience with the Methods and Assistance Program reviews.

Substitution:

  • One (1) additional year of full-time minimum experience as stated above may substitute for thirty (30 semester hours) of the required education with a maximum substitution of 120 semester hours (four years).

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Must be registered with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) and working towards a Registered Professional Appraiser (RPA) or be RPA licensed through TDLR; or currently hold another state or appraisal related national license, such as MAI (Member Appraisal Institute), SRA (Senior Residential Appraiser), CAE (Certified Assessment Evaluator), state certification for fee appraisal; or similar acceptable certification.
  • A valid Texas (or state of residency) driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record are a condition of employment.
  • Applicants offered an interview must present the following documents at or before the interview: A state issued driving record for the last 36 months; valid Texas driver’s license (or state of residency driver’s license); and current proof of automobile insurance.

In this role you will:

  • Collect, review and analyze appropriate documents, data systems and records necessary to complete MAP reviews and preliminary and final MAP reports.
  • Conduct interviews with appropriate appraisal district staff and others to gain insight about documentation and data provided by the appraisal district.
  • Inspect documents, maps, computer files, appraisal district records and properties as identified in the MAP review guidelines to help determine if the appraisal district complies with generally accepted appraisal techniques and standards and the MAP instrument.
  • Prepare responses/answers and recommendations to appropriate portions of the MAP review documents for each appraisal district.
  • Maintain detailed working notes and organized work papers documenting the MAP review findings for each assigned appraisal district.
  • Represents the agency by actively participating in formal and informal meetings with appraisal districts to help with understanding and implementing the recommendations listed in the MAP review reports
