The Physician Extender's position is responsible for assisting the physicians by taking histories, explaining procedures, explaining pre procedure protocol, measure and fit for durable medical equipment, provide treatment, etc.

The essential job responsibilities include:

1. Takes patient history, including updating current conditions, past surgical procedures, etc. and records the information into the patient’s chart.
2. Review diagnostic tests, including but not limited to lab work, X-rays, MRIs, CT Scans, etc. and ensure the information is in the patient’s chart.
3. Assists the patients into the exam/procedure rooms, sets them up for the treatment/procedures.
4. Ensure any pre-operative testing is completed and reviewed prior to any procedures.
5. Ensure any pre-certification is obtained prior to the completion of any procedure, treatment or durable medical equipment.
6. Explains to patients pre-operative or post-operative instructions to patients.
7. Performs patient education concerning procedures, treatment, durable medical equipment, etc. Answer any questions and address any concerns.
8. Dispense durable medical equipment ordered by the physician. This shall include taking measurements, placing any orders with the companies and showing/explaining to the patient the proper use.
9. Assist with any procedures.
10. Perform patient treatment such as laser, exercises, physical performance tests, etc. under the athletic trainer’s scope.
11. Communicating with other practitioners concerning the patient’s condition, process, current treatment, etc.
12. Reviewing all new patients to the practice.
13. Assisting with any documentation.
14. Scheduling patients follow up appointments.
15. Confirm that financial matters have been discussed with the patients.
16. Assist and support the medical providers in developing new exercise plans to provide the patient with variety and progression.
17. Develop and deliver home exercise programs to patients under the supervision of the Physicians and Therapists.
18. Assist as an athletic trainer in the facility regarding other responsibilities as well.
19. Perform athletic training services at various sporting events and competitions on a per diem basis. Become the athletic trainer for a specific sports team and provide these services according to their schedule.
20. To assist local schools in providing athletic training services to their various Athletic teams when additional coverage is needed, or their athletic trainer is unavailable.
21. Participate in all facility processes and services.
22. Participate in all in-service training programs as requested.
23. Have a flexible nature, capable of performing one task in the context of multiple tasks to accomplish a goal.
24. Be mature, pleasant and, possess good communication skills.
25. Other responsibilities as assigned.

Job Requirements:

- A minimum of a bachelor's degree in athletic training, masters degree preferred.

- Experience as an athletic trainer working in medical field, preferably working with a medical physician.

- An active New Jersey Athletic Trainer License

Pay: $50,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
