  • DoD Approved 8570/8140 Certification, i.e., Network CE, Security CE, CISSP or similar
  • Must be a US Citizen
  • No/Limited travel is expected

Job Description:

  • CompQsoft is seeking a Principal Systems Architect to join our DISA team in Fort Meade MD. This is an exciting key position to a major Department of Defense initiative.
  • The Principal Sys Architect assesses, tests, and recommends solutions and technologies to improve all aspects of the DISN IP core.
  • These technologies include network devices (routers, switches, firewalls, and Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS), and services Authentication, Authorization and Accounting (AAA), Access Control List (ACL), secure remote access (i.e., Secure shell, Secure VPN, IPSec), and IPv6 capable devices.
  • The Principal Systems Architect is responsible for all aspects regarding the design, review/recommendation, lab testing, evaluation/certification, implementation/deployment as well as assisting in providing Tier3 support for the Production DISN core.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all aspects of the DISN as applicable to Internet Protocol (IP) engineering and operations.
  • Employ disciplined systems engineering processes including, but not limited to, requirements development, technical management and control, and system/software design and architecture.
  • Designs architecture to include the software, hardware, and communications to support the total requirements as well as provide for present and future cross-functional requirements and interfaces.
  • Identifies, assesses, and presents options for meeting the functional and technical requirements including hardware and software updates or upgrades.
  • Responsible for developing high level system design diagrams and ensures these systems are compatible and in compliance with the standards for open systems architectures, the Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) and International Standards Organization (ISO) reference models, and profiles of standards such as Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) Open Systems Environment (OSE) reference model.
  • Implement system engineering best practices associated with risk management, configuration management, data management, test and evaluation (T&E), and verification and validation (V&V).
  • Support the design and development of systems and applications and their integration into the overarching enterprise DoD architecture.
  • Provide all required design and development documents and supporting architectural documentation in compliance with Department of Defense Architectural Framework (DoDAF) Enterprise Architecture guidance, or other frameworks as identified.
  • Support routing and switching analysis of enterprise-wide and large-scale networking infrastructure (CAN, MAN, WAN), to include, but not limited to, analyzing circuits, troubleshooting routing protocol configurations, making route optimization recommendations, highlighting traffic congestion points, and ensuring quality of service policies are properly configured.
  • Ensure network components are running the required hardware and software approved by the Government and validate network systems and transport layers are in compliance with industry standards and protocols.
  • Evaluate network problems, workflows, usage, and trends to make organizational and planning recommendations, while developing appropriate corrective action.
  • Conduct market research to find products and features to meet DISN IP requirements
  • Provide technical expertise in design review, lab testing & test report, implementation plan and deployment of the IP services across the DISN.
  • Provide technical security expertise in design, test, evaluation, and deployment of advanced large-scale complex DoD networks. Review security requirements set by DoD agencies for the NIPRNet network protection; Assess and analyze current NIPRNet network architecture; propose and analyze potential solutions as they apply to the DISN IP core architecture.
  • Conduct audits, risk assessment, threat analysis, contingency planning and implement security standards and methods.
  • Review security threats to the current DoD Internet gateway IA infrastructure, architecture, and technology and determine/implement effective countermeasures IAW established policies/regulations/directives.
  • Provide Tier III engineering support to DISA global operations personnel.

Skills:

  • DoD and/or Government program experience preferred; DISA experience a plus.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience.
  • DISN and Internet IP Design Experience
  • Network and System Engineering experience to include Mobility, Cybersecurity and Testing experience
  • Expertise in large-scale IP Networking and Testing
  • Routing protocols: BGP, MP-BGP, MPLS/RSVP, OSPF, IS-IS, RIP, Multicast, IPv6, QoS
  • Advanced Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) services (L3VPN, L2VPN, VPLS & Carrier Supporting Carrier (CsC))
  • TCP/IP, LAN/WAN, SONET, ICMP and SNMP management protocols
  • Firewalls (Juniper/Netscreen, Cisco ASA/PIX, CyberGuard, SideWinder), VPN products (IPSec, SSL VPN)
  • Network test equipment/Traffic Generator such as IXIA, Spirent Test Center, Smartbits and Agilent N2X
  • Possess excellent interpersonal communication skills with the ability to interact with management and staff at all levels
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Tools: PowerPoint, Word, and Excel
  • Excellent communication, effective leadership, and interpersonal skills

Preferred Experience/Qualifications

  • CCIE or JNCIE or equivalent routing and switching experience

Physical Demands

  • Ability to type, communicate via telephone and sit for extended periods of time.
