Fabrication Shop Quality Control Technician
Work directly for the shop manager to maintain and continuously improve quality control methods for piping, structural steel, tanks and vessels. Quality Control Technician will assist and advise on building essential tools and equipment essential for quality inspections.
Job requires good communication skills, strong Computer Skills including Microsoft Excel and standard Microsoft programs. Document control with a hands-on approach to verify fabrication dimensionally and for orientation. Work with production and manufacturing team and working trades people for checking progress for proper construction with the intention to minimize rework. Maintain logs and be able to report on delays and issues.
Work within a team environment establishing fabrication priorities and completion dates to ensure that products are completed properly with quality paperwork and required testing completed within final shipping schedules. Work with material handling and shipping team making sure finished product is accounted for with proper documentation and stagged proper for shipping.
This position requires the ability to read orthographic, Isometric, and shop fabrication drawings.
The ability to be trained to perform in-house testing as needed such as Dye-penetrant, and witness and monitoring of pressure testing using chart recorders, completing testing paperwork.
Ability to learn and be trained using thickness gauges and calipers and read and interpret inbound material specification documentation. Responsible to photo document outgoing fabrication and report quality issues.
Once trained, will be expected to do the following:
· Wear proper PPE including steel toe boots, eye protection and ear protection.
· Review all documentation paperwork inbound and outbound
o Such as packing slips
o Mill test reports
o Purchase orders with material specifics
o Fabrication drawings
o Pressure test and test result paperwork including from third party testing companies
· Assist when needed to locate proper materials
· Assist shop mgr. with fabrication preparation duties such as material lists and cut length listing for the workers.
· Perform routine checks on fab before welding takes place then again after welding.
· Know tolerance for each job
· Make weld maps for drawings
· Schedule third party testing companies as required.
· Work with fabrication team to help with finial outcome of fab.
