The Director of Nursing (DON) for a long-term care facility plays a crucial role in overseeing and managing the nursing department to ensure the delivery of high-quality patient care. The job description for this role may include the following responsibilities and qualifications:

Responsibilities: DIRECTOR OF NURSING (RN) REGISTERED NURSE

1. Leadership and Management:

   • Provide strategic leadership to the nursing department, setting goals and objectives.
   • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the nursing staff.
   • Collaborate with other department heads to ensure effective interdisciplinary communication.

2. Clinical Oversight:

   • Ensure that nursing care meets established standards and guidelines.
   • Monitor and evaluate the quality of patient care and implement improvements as needed.
   • Develop and implement nursing policies and procedures.

3. Staffing and Recruitment:

   • Recruit, hire, and train nursing staff.
   • Develop and maintain a staffing schedule to ensure adequate coverage.
   • Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide feedback to nursing staff.

4. Regulatory Compliance:

   • Stay abreast of state and federal regulations governing nursing care in long-term care facilities.
   • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and accreditation standards.

5. Budget Management:

   • Participate in the development and management of the nursing department budget.
   • Monitor expenses and implement cost-control measures.

6. Education and Training:

   • Coordinate ongoing education and training programs for nursing staff.
   • Facilitate professional development opportunities for the nursing team.

7. Quality Improvement:

   • Implement and oversee quality improvement initiatives.
   • Analyze data and trends to identify areas for improvement.

Qualifications: DIRECTOR OF NURSING (RN) REGISTERED NURSE

1. Education:

   • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Nursing.
   • Current and valid nursing license in the State of New Jersey a must!

2. Experience:

   • Proven experience in nursing leadership roles, preferably in a long-term care setting.
   • Knowledge of geriatric nursing practices.

3. Management Skills:

   • Strong leadership and management skills.
   • Ability to make sound decisions and prioritize effectively.

4. Communication Skills:

   • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
   • Ability to collaborate with a diverse team of healthcare professionals.

5. Regulatory Knowledge:

   • Familiarity with state and federal regulations governing long-term care facilities.
