Compass Family Services is Hiring a Bilingual Financial Counselor Near San Francisco, CA

Organization: Compass Family Services is a 100 year old nonprofit working on the front lines of San Francisco’s homeless crisis. We provide families experiencing or at risk of homelessness with comprehensive support to address immediate needs and ensure long-term success.

Schedule: Full time, Monday - Friday, during standard business hours.

Salary range: $30 - $33 per hour

Location: 37 Grove St, San Francisco. 4-5 days per week in the office.

Position Description: The Financial Counselor helps San Francisco families who are struggling financially and/or with their credit. This includes empowering families to understand and improve their credit scores, repair credit, and develop a financial wellness plan through workshops and one-on-one meetings.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Work collaboratively with case managers from all Compass programs to support their clients to obtain and maintain housing stability.
  • Lead financial literacy workshops.
  • Create a financial literacy resource bank and resource guide.
  • Help clients to obtain credit reports, read and understand their credit reports and assist with the credit repair process.
  • Help clients identify and remove barriers to stable housing, such as past evictions and poor credit history.
  • Provide crisis intervention, community and support services, information and referral, family budget assistance, and advocacy.
  • Maintain up-to-date and thorough client files, both paper and electronic.

Qualifications:

  • Fluency in Spanish required.
  • Professional experience with financial literacy.
  • Experience working with people in crisis and demonstrated understanding of issues facing homelessness and low-income families.
  • Strong public speaking skills; comfortable designing and leading workshops in English and Spanish.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including relationship-building, networking, and ability to develop trusting relationships with a diverse set of individuals.
  • Outstanding work habits: punctuality, communication, reliability, cooperation, organization, professionalism. Ability to work independently and to juggle many responsibilities concurrently.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging work.
  • Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Suite of Programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.). Salesforce experience a plus.

Location & Covid Considerations:

  • Work location: 1321 Mission Street, San Francisco
  • In person 5 days per week for the first three months, then option to work remotely one day per week
  • Covid vaccination required for all staff
