Companion Animal Alliance is Hiring a Dog Playgroup Monitor Near Baton Rouge, LA

Title: Dog Playgroup Monitor

Division: Shelter Operations

Reports To: Senior Shelter Manager

Job duties include but are not limited to:

  • Must be able to work 7 am- 10 am shifts, working at least 3 shifts/week including at least 1 weekend and 1 week day shift
  • Supervising and ensuring the safety of Companion Animal Alliance’s dogs during playgroups. Playgroup Monitors oversee 4 play yards with up to 4-5 dogs per yard at a time
  • Evaluate dog behavior, reactions, and interactions with other dogs to determine playgroup candidates
  • Monitor and document dog behavior in the playgroup setting
  • Maintain continuous focus and attention on dog interactions to prevent fights/altercations and injuries
  • Observe and learn dog behavior and signs of aggression in order to appropriately assign dogs to the proper play yards
  • Perform and document dog health evaluations throughout playgroups
  • Perform janitorial duties: restocking supplies, disposing of trash and basic play yard maintenance
  • Report to Leads and Managers of any problems

Knowledge, skills and abilities needed to perform the essential functions of this position:

Follow the mission of CAA.

Enjoy working with animals and have a genuine concern for their care and well-being. Be familiar with all shelter Standard Operating Procedures and the Employee Manual. Self-starter.

Working knowledge of breeds, diseases, medical conditions and animal handling and behavior. Ability to handle animals safely and with patience and gentleness.

Ability to represent CAA in a professional manner in all situations with the public, volunteers and staff.

Ability to create and sustain positive working relationships within CAA, with volunteers, the public and be a team player.

Must be patient, courteous and work well under stressful conditions.

Knowledge and ability to accurately work with detailed information in paper and computerized

format.

Ability to read, write and communicate effectively.

Ability to learn and quickly adapt to changes in programs and procedures.

Required Professional Licensing or Certifications:

High School Diploma or GED

Physical Demands: The work is performed in animal housing areas and shelter surroundings. Typical position requires workers to walk or stand for long periods; lift and carry up to 50 pounds; climb stairs, bend, reach, hold, grasp and turn objects.
