Community Services for Every1 is Hiring a DSP Day Medical - Residential Near Buffalo, NY

Day Medical DSPs provide a wide variety of person-centered support and services to people with developmental disabilities. DSPs model, teach and advocate for people with developmental disabilities in order to support them to achieve their highest level of independent living, enable their fullest participation in society, ensure their civil and human rights are protected and promote their ability to be productive, contributing members of the community. Day Medical DSPperforms all functions of a DSP with an emphasized responsibility of the tasks related to the health and medical well-being of the individuals living at the site.

Paid training is provided. Our sites are staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This is a Full-time position, first shift, typically Monday - Friday. Locations are throughout WNY from North Collins to Grand Island.

  • DSPs working at our designated complex sites will earn an additional $1.50 per hour when working at those sites.
  • Weekend shift differential for all sites is $1.00 additional per hour for shifts between 3pm Saturday and 11pm Sunday.

Position Responsibilities

  • Maintains their first allegiance to the people they work for by demonstrating respect and supporting problem solving skills. Lives the Agency Mission and adheres to the Direct Support Professionals (NADSP) code of ethics.
  • Has solid knowledge and understanding of person-centered planning (PCP) and service delivery through use of the Personal Outcome Measures (POMs) and PCP tools.
  • Completes Incident Reports, General Event Reports (GER), Treatment Administration Records (TAR), Medication Administration Records (MAR), Medication Errors, Consent to Share and Release, Informed Consent for Psychotropic Medications, Behavior Tracking and other agency forms necessary for service delivery.
  • Administers prescribed medications and treatments; teaches, observes, reports problems and progress in achieving self-administration of medication of individuals, teaches use of skin care lotions, topical ointments, eye and ear drops and assists in their use as needed. Coordinates with the pharmacy and doctors to ensure that adequate supplies of medications are readily available.
  • Provides the necessary level of support, as indicated in the IPOP, while empowering and advocating for the individual before, during and after medical appointments. Ensures proper documentation is completed according to Agency policies.
  • Teaches and reinforces fire safety procedures to people served. Checks to see that fire exits are clear, night lights and exit signs are on, windows are locked, etc. Checks fire equipment and reports any malfunction. Understands and can execute specific fire/emergency preparedness plans for the location in which he/she is assigned.
  • Maintains relationship and communication with individuals, Agency Nurse, medical providers, pharmacy, and their Circle of Support regarding health and well-being of the person served.
  • Reviews and completes all tasks on the medical checklist for each individual within the site.
  • Reviews, completes, and communicates preparation for medical appointments, as well as assists in training other DSP’s on how to run medical appointments.
  • Ensures Quick MAR data is current and accurate, by reviewing scripts, Treatment Administration Record (TAR), and Physician Note Orders (PNO). Audits Quick Mar a minimum of 3 times a week. Completes medication errors and closes out Quick MAR documentation as appropriate.
  • Completes follow up as directed following RN Audits of site medical records.
  • Attends Day Medical trainings/meetings and communicates information to all DSPs.
  • Attends Person Centered Action meetings to ensure health care needs are reviewed along with RN Monthly Notes.
  • Performs all duties of Agency DSP, as needed or directed, within site:
  • Based on the needs of those receiving services, DSPs will also be responsible for housekeeping, cooking, laundry services, general maintenance of the worksite; and providing physical support with daily activities, personal hygiene, including bathing, dressing, getting in/out of bed, using the toilet, walking, standing, or exercising.
  • Assists the Site Manager with assignments as needed, including but not limited to, the purchase/pick up of groceries, supplies and medications, tracking expenditures, routine maintenance and repairs for worksite.
