Community Resource Project is Hiring a WIC Dietitian 1 Near Sacramento, CA

Position Title: WIC Dietitian 1

Reports to: Health Division Director

Status: Non-Exempt

Summary

Under the supervision of the Health Division Director the WIC Registered Dietitian provides direct nutrition services and education to women, infants and children up to the age of 5 participating in the WIC Program, with emphasis to those at high medical and nutrition risk. The WIC RD also assists with the planning, development and implementation of overall WIC Program services to a diverse population.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

· Provide accurate, reliable, science-based and culturally appropriate nutrition services and individual counseling to at risk women, infants and children.

o Clinical nutrition counseling to support the medical nutrition therapy guidance provided by participant’s health care provider may be required, including but not limited to clinical conditions such as gestational diabetes, obesity, hypertension, hyperemesis, failure to thrive, food allergies, anemia, etc.

· Complete comprehensive nutrition evaluation and assessments, developing nutrition education and follow-up care plans based on anthropometric, biochemical, clinical and dietary indicators that present for all WIC participants, especially high-risk women, infants and children

· Become familiar with local cultural groups, tradition and practices that may affect nutrition education, breastfeeding and health outcomes

· Become thoroughly oriented to and apply WIC policies and procedures to provide continuity or care within USDA guidance for delivery of WIC services

· Demonstrate knowledge and competency through cross-training for WIC positions, functioning and performing duties of a WIC Nutrition Assistant II and III, providing nutrition education and breastfeeding support to low-risk participants

o Complete a series of self-paced, virtual mandatory trainings to include Developing a Care Plan, Setting Goals, Nutrition Assessment

o Therapeutic Formula & Nutrition Care for high risk infants

o Complete 20 hours of breastfeeding training

· Learn and effectively utilize the WIC Management Information System (WIC WISE, a WIC specific computer system) and all of its portals and functions

· Apply clinical knowledge and professional judgment in handing and processing of medical/therapeutic formula requests, communicating with healthcare organizations as needed to facilitate access to health care and coverage

· Attend mandatory training and workshops in the areas of child abuse prevention and reporting

· Assist with new staff training and orientation

· Plan and provide training on maternal and child health and nutrition to staff, community agencies, dietetic students and/or volunteers

· Research, develop, and conduct nutrition education classes relevant to WIC population, including the development of culturally appropriate and science-based materials

· Effectively research and utilize local resources and referrals to meet the needs of our diverse population

· Coordinate with community organizations to promote healthy eating and access to healthy foods

· Assist in the planning and facilitation of teambuilding activities to improve morale and overall health and wellness

· Complete compliance and quality assurance chart audits on assigned WIC Nutrition Assistants

· Work 1-2 evenings/month to meet minimum standards for hours of WIC services

Required Knowledge and Skills

· Must possess and maintain the Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RD/RDN) professional credential as approved by the Commission on Dietetic Registration of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND), or be eligible to be registered

· Must complete the number of continuing education units required to maintain their professional registration with the AND

· Registration Eligible Nutritionists must possess a bachelor’s degree and documented eligibility to take the National RD registration exam and must pass the RD exam within six months from the date of completion of the dietetic internship.

o RD eligible staff who do not pass the RD exam within the first six months shall function as a Degreed Nutritionist and perform duties within the DN scope

Preferred Knowledge and Skills

· Previous experience as a Registered Dietitian in WIC or Public Health

· Demonstrate excellent communication skills to include verbally and in writing

· Exhibit strong critical thinking skills

· Interested in maternal and child health and overall health and wellness of communities

· Work in a fast paced, public health setting

· Appreciate and understand diversity, inclusivity and challenges faced by low income and minority families

At-Will Employment

Community Resource Projects’ (CRP) employment policy is at will. Under the at-will policy neither the employee nor CRP is committed to continuing the employment relationship for any specific term. Rather, the employment relationship will continue at will. Either side may terminate the relationship at any time, with or without cause and with or without notice. CRP also retains the right to demote, transfer, change employee job duties, and change employee compensation at any time with or without notice and with or without cause in its sole discretion. In deciding to work for CRP, or continuing to work for CRP, you must understand and accept these terms of employment.
