DIRECTOR, MEDICAL PROGRAMS - COMMUNITY HEALTHCARE WORKER 
MALCOLM X COLLEGE

 

Malcolm X College is looking for a Director for the Community Healthcare Worker (CHW) Program. The Director is responsible for the overall management of the day to day operations of one or more medical field education programs. Includes management of instructional and operational staff, curriculum development, program improvement and maintenance of program standards to ensure certification by accreditation bodies. 

The Community Health Worker (CHW) program focuses on universal competencies essential for primary and preventive healthcare. Students interested in health or social care will benefit from this coursework. Whether they choose to enter the workforce as CHW or continue their education in other health professions. The curriculum will prepare them to serve as a liaison between the healthcare system and the community. Some roles students can apply to include Health Education, Patient Navigator, Outreach Specialist, Promotor(a) de Salud, and Community Health Worker, among others. The CHW program covers the same knowledge and competencies required by university-level (bachelor's and master's degree) health educator program.s

ESSENTIALS DUTIES:

    • Supervises, evaluates, and manages department faculty and support staff. Interviews and recommends for hire full-time and part-time instructional and other program staff; evaluates all staff and participates in disciplinary actions as necessary; and recommends termination when appropriate.
    • Maintains department personnel and student records and other confidential documents in accordance with district policy, accreditation and/or certification standards.
    • Participates in and reports to the monthly Consortium Educational Advisory Committee, bimonthly Medical Director’s meetings, and required accreditation meetings. Conducts program evaluations and self-study reports to ensure the program remains in compliance with accreditation standards.
    • Designs and evaluates didactic and clinical curriculum to ensure that expected competencies are being taught to the students. Ensures that instruction is consistent with national professional standards to assure skill and knowledge competencies of graduates. 
    • Developments, implements, and evaluates the standards of the medical program being managed to ensure quality student education and quality patient care in clinical settings. 
    • Creates and implements educational assessment plans appropriate to the needs of each student. Implements a program to track and monitor the assessment plans for each Associate. Develops and implements competency programs.
    • Assesses, evaluates, and implements program changes as workforce trends demand. Evaluates student job placement processes and works with college staff regarding same. 
    • Oversees the selection and evaluation of clinical sites and documents that program expectations are being met.
    • Ensures that educational, patient care and future employer concerns are met while applying for and maintaining program accreditation.
    • Responsible for budget preparations and accountability. Develops and monitors annual department budgets based on history of expenditures, predicted enrollment and revenue, and current allocations.
    • Prepares reports for College administration on all program activities, standards, accreditation requirements, external meetings, educational concerns, and student issues and successes.
    • Ensure faculty and students meet standards and guidelines regarding didactic or clinical activities at multiple off-campus medical facilities.
    • Adheres to CCC Customer Service Excellence standards.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in appropriate medical or allied health education field, Masters Degree preferred.
    • Minimum of five (5) years work experience in the Allied Health field of the medical program overseen. 
    • Must be certified and maintain licensure in appropriate medical or allied health field, specifically EMT-P (Emergency Medical Technician Paramedic) and EMT-B (Emergency Medical Technician Basic, issued by the State of Illinois, Department of Public Health. 
    • Previous instructional experience highly desirable. 
    • Ability to handle all situations with tact, persuasiveness, and diplomacy. 
    • Ability to operate computers and to use software applications.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Previous budget development experience preferred.
