JOB SUMMARY:

The Psychiatrist is responsible for providing community psychiatric consultations. Perform professional mental health services for clients with mental or emotional disturbances, alcohol or drug abuse problems, and/or mental retardation and other developmental disabilities. Perform psychiatric review of charts, and treatment plans and approve pursuant to Medicaid regulations and CHSI policy and protocols. Collaborate in the development of individualized habilitation or treatment plans. Prescribe psychiatric medications and collaborate with other members of the treatment team to monitor medication and facilitate coordination between medical, psychological and psychosocial components of the overall client care. Provide coordination of services with client’s primary care physician. This position carries the responsibility of ensuring productivity standards are met, while delivering quality patient care to the population we serve.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Uphold and support the mission, philosophy, objectives, policies and ethics of CHSI.
2. Medically evaluates clients and assesses their medical status.
3. Perform psychiatric evaluations including a differential diagnosis and develop and monitor treatment plans.
4. Prescribe psychiatric medication and collaborate with therapist, case management and nursing staff to facilitate appropriate medication monitoring and adherence. Perform “physician sign-off” on individual habilitation and/or treatment plan when such plan adequately addresses the need of the client. Provide psychiatric consultation and medical supervision. Coordinate services with the client’s primary care physician. Provide expert testimony in court on mental status of individuals and performs court appointed examinations for civil commitment hearings.
5. Perform psychiatric review of charts and treatment plans. Provide community consultation. Participates in planning and administrative decisions affecting program’s treatment approaches, technology, and quality of care.
6. Complete timely and appropriate documentation in the electronic medical record for clients.
7. Will be required to achieve productivity standards as set forth and outlined by CHSI.
8. Maintain compliance with regard to state, federal and CHSI guidelines including, but not limited to, accurate and timely documentation.
9. Perform all other duties as directed either formally or informally, verbally or in writing.
