Responsibilities:
1. Prepares and treats all patients referred for HBOT.
2. Performs specific assigned wound care activities within the state defined "Scope of Practice".
3. Performs accurate and complete documentation and charge entry for each HBOT session.
4. Maintains a safe environment for patients and staff and ensures adequate and safe decompression of all individuals with hyperbaric exposure.
5. Utilizes authority to restrict and remove any potentially hazardous supply or equipment items from the hyperbaric environment.
6. Performs all aspects of hyperbaric operations and maintenance in accordance with manufacturer recommendations, industry standards and safe practices including oversight of daily, weekly, semi-annual, and annual maintenance.
7. Responsible for the oversight of chamber equipment/supplies and evaluates all equipment and supplies to ensure that they meet all the safety requirements before the chamber is used.
8. Oversight of chamber safety drills, under the direction of the hospital Safety Officer. Drills will be tailored towards staff development and improving staff response to emergency operations.
9. Participates in the department and hospitals continuous Quality Improvement and Risk Management programs with the focus on improving the quality of services provided.
10. Ensures departmental safety and compliance with all regulatory agencies.
11. Provides ongoing development of department safety policies and procedures as they relate to hyperbaric services.
12. Reviews all department safety incidents, collects information regarding equipment and patient safety, reports relevant issues to staff and supervisor.
13. Participates in the organization's safety committee, unit quality assurance and improvement meetings. Attends mandatory hospital education and unit meetings per unit standard. Participates in department and/or staff meetings, in-services and training programs to ensure continued understanding of all departmental policies, procedures and performance improvement processes.
14. Coordinates the activities of hyperbaric personnel to achieve hyperbaric objectives for quality results, customer/patient satisfaction, cost-effectiveness and compliance with budget.
15. Assists with marketing and outreach of hyperbaric services to physicians.
16. Acts as a liaison between outpatient hyperbaric services and inpatient wound care to identify possible hyperbaric patients and assist with care coordination.
17. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education
  • High School Diploma, High School Equivalency (HSE) or Completion of a CHS Approved Individualized Education Plan (IEP) Certificate required
Experience
  • 2 years of experience as a Hyperbaric Technologist preferred
  • 1 year of experience as a Hyperbaric Safety Officer preferred
Licenses and Certifications
  • BLS - Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers by American Heart Association (AHA) required
  • One of the following is required
o EMT - Emergency Medical Technician Certification issued by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians
o RN - Current and valid Registered Nurse license to work within the state of California
o LVN - Current State of California Licensed Vocational Nurse License
o RCP - State of California Respiratory Care Practitioner License
o CHT - Certified Hyperbaric Technician preferred within 1 year of hire or transfer into position
