COMMUNITY HEALTH OF SOUTH FLORIDA INC is Hiring a NURSE III, CRISIS STABILIZATION UNIT (CUTLER BAY) Near Miami, FL

POSITION PURPOSE:
The Nurse III is part of a multi-disciplinary team providing care to Crisis Stabilization patients. He or She is responsible to coordinate, direct, and evaluate the delivery of patient care on assigned shift. He or she functions under the guidance of their State licensure within the CMHC in accordance with standards of State and Federal Regulations.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS / QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Experience:
Graduation from an accredited nursing program. Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing. One year supervisory experience in a psychiatric setting.

Licensure / Certification:
Current active Florida RN Nursing License. Maintain current CPR certification from the American Heart Association.

Skills / Ability:
Demonstrate excellent supervisory skills. Possesses knowledge of nursing process and psychiatric-mental health nursing. Performs psychiatric nursing assessments. Identifies medical and/or psychiatric problems. Possesses veni-puncture skills. Physically able to participate in restraint procedures using TEAM technique.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES (THIS IS A EXEMPT POSITION)
Coordinate, direct, and evaluate the delivery of patient care on assigned shift.
Make staff assignments at the beginning of the shift to include patient care and unit maintenance duties.
Ascertain availability of staff coverage for next 24 hours.
Assist Nursing Supervisor with completion of time sheets and monthly assignment schedules.
Monitor and evaluate staff performance on a daily basis.
Conduct performance evaluations for staff assigned shift.
Counsel employees formally and informally.
Maintain open communications with Nursing Supervisor, Co-worker, and Patients.
Inform Nursing Supervisor of important patient care and personnel issues.
Keep Nursing Supervisor and Physician informed regarding changes to patient’s condition.
Communicate pertinent information regarding patient care during change of shift report and give report utilizing the Kardex procedure.
Provide for professional growth of self for development of staff.
Participate in appropriate continuing education, in-service training, and Performance Improvement Committee activities related to job responsibilities.
Encourage staff participation in appropriate educational/training programs.
Ensure Staff maintain unit in a neat and orderly fashion, adhering to Infection Control Policies.
CLINICAL:
Deliver and document patient care according to established policies and procedures through use of the nursing process.
Assess patient’s mental status.
Recognize significant findings in patient’s condition; take appropriate nursing action when indicated.
Prepare patients for special procedures and physician examination.
Give treatments and administers medications as prescribed by the Physician following established procedures.
Draw blood samples, perform respiratory therapy, and perform and mount EKG’s when requested.
Maintain confidentiality regarding patient information.
Recognize and respect Patient’s Rights and Responsibilities.
Respond well to emergency and crisis situations.
Obtain six (6) contact hours of continuing education credits each year in area of specific responsibility.
Maintain current CPR Certification and nursing licensure.
Accurately document nursing action, psychiatric interventions performed, medications and treatments administered.
Complete lab and x-ray requests as necessary.
Obtain patients’ diagnostic results as requested.
Report abnormal diagnostic findings to physician and provide timely follow-up as indicated.
Initiate patient and family teaching, including discharged instructions, and document on the medical record.
Demonstrate sound knowledge and skill in the operation and use of equipment.
Demonstrate proficiency in use of Patient Information System.
Provide a clean, safe environment for staff, patients and visitors and assures availability of supplies for delivery of patient care.
Perform chart audits on weekly basis and submit report to Nursing Supervisor monthly.
Promptly report hazardous conditions to appropriate staff for corrective action.
Control distribution of usable supplies, such as narcotics, syringes, prescriptions, etc.
Reports to work with on time and ready to work with minimal absenteeism.
Completes B&E (billing and encounter) forms within the same day of intervention.
Provides accurate and timely documentation in patient charts within the same day of intervention.
ADMINISTRATIVE:
Perform administrative duties as assigned.
Provide input in the formulation of Policies and Procedures.
Review emergency procedures with staff.
Participate in fire drills and training of staff regarding fire/safety policies.
Review QA with staff and in-service staff on deficiencies.
Assure staff compliance with Nursing Department and CHI policies and procedures.
Assist in the orientation of Nursing Staff to CHI, Nursing Department and more specifically to assigned unit.
Participate in departmental and organizational meetings as directed.
Participate in Performance Improvement Committee activities as assigned.
Adheres to Confidentiality Policies and Procedures / HIPAA Regulations.
Performs other duties as assigned.
