MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1. Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy.

2. Current or temporary licensure in the state of West Virginia. Permanent licensure obtained within 90 days of employment.

3. Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.

PREFERREDQUALIFICATIONS:

EXPERIENCE:

1. One (1) year acute hospital experience.

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position. 1. Responsible for the direction of the Physical Therapy Department supportive staff including physical therapy assistants, physical therapy aides and clerical staff.

2. Observes and evaluates treatment effect, recommend changes to physician as needed.

3. Performs an appropriate evaluation on all patients as related to the therapy requested by treating physician and performs re-evaluation as per policy.

4. Formulates a teaching plan based upon identified learning needs and evaluates effectiveness of learning, family is included in teaching as appropriate.

5. Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Identifies and addresses psychological, cultural, ethnic and religious/spiritual needs of patients and family.

6. Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly. Maintains department cleanliness and safety.

7. Interacts professionally with patient/family and involves patient/family in the formation of the plan of care.

8. Communicates appropriately and clearly to physicians, hospital staff, and administrative team.

9. Coordinates and directs patient care to ensure patients' needs are met and hospital policy is followed.

10. Maintains records pertinent to the personnel and operation of the department.

11. Ensures that the patient charges are accurate and turned in on a timely manner.

12. Assists with orientation and in-service training for certified department staff members, participates in guidance and educational programs both within the department and community.

13. Ensures that documentation meets current standards and policies.

14. Consults other departments as appropriate, to collaborate in patient care and performance improvement activities.

15. Maintains a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

1. The National Institute of Occupational Safety and health recommends minimizing the need for employees to manually lift patients, and limit safe patient handling to 35 pounds. All transfers, lifts and re-positioning will be completed utilizing the lift equipment and/or other patient handling aids as indicated by the patient's profile and appropriate algorithms.

2. Heavy/Hard Work:Work requires strength and/or stamina, lifting, moving, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, and carrying of materials and equipment weighing 40 lbs.

3. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
