Under the direct supervision of a registered nurse and according to established nursing standards and hospital policy and procedures, assists with surgical and GI endoscopy procedures as a scrubbed member of the surgical team. Prepares instruments and maintains a clean and safe surgical environment. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested. Displays a high regard for human life and respects the dignity, uniqueness, worth and rights of each individual.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

• High school diploma, plus one year of college level technical training as an operating room technician or equivalent knowledge gained through extensive on-the-job training and experience in a hospital operating room environment.
• Must have a thorough knowledge of medical terminology applicable to surgical/GI endoscopy procedures. Must have a working knowledge of surgical/GI endoscopy procedures. Must have a thorough knowledge of aseptic techniques. Must be able to develop a thorough knowledge of surgical/GI endoscopy instruments and supplies and learn to anticipate their use.
•  Obtains and maintains current certification (Heartsaver CPR) as required in specialty areas (Critical Care).
