    QUALIFICATIONS
    Masters Social Work. Valid PEL (Professional Educator License) with the School Social Work (SSW) endorsement
    Valid Illinois Drivers License
    Preferred: Experience with elementary or middle school social work with special emphasis in teacher consultation; experience in providing therapeutic interventions in regular classroom context.
    Preferred: Bilingual
    SUMMARY:Under the supervision of the building principal and the Director of Student Services, the Social Worker will help both special and general education students resolve personal, emotional and social problems that interfere with their adjustment to school and their capacity to enjoy the fullest benefits of the education offered them.
    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Participates in the Special Services screening, referrals and team process
    • Provides direct therapeutic intervention to both special and general education students.
    • Performs casework service with parents to increase the parents' understanding, their constructive participation in resolving their child's problems, and their knowledge and use of appropriate resources available.
    • Consults and collaborates with other school personnel in gathering and giving information on a case, and in establishing and planning for respective roles in the modification of the student's behavior.
    • Supervises the referral of students to, and serves as liaison with such outside agencies as the Welfare Department, Child Placement Bureau and Juvenile Court, as appropriate.
    • Makes home visits for the purpose of gathering helpful information on a student's background.
    • Serves as a liaison between home and school when considerable follow-up is necessary, as in welfare cases, foster home children, and disadvantaged students.
    • Assists students directly toward adjustment to school.
    • Keeps sufficient records of cases for use by school staff members and outside agencies.
    • Other duties as required.
