DESCRIPTION

Starting salary for this position is : $3,700 (Monthly)

Employees starting at the entry step of this range receive salary step advancement after six months and every 12 months thereafter.

If an employee starting at anything higher than the entry step of the range, will have salary step advancement after 12 months and salary step advancement every 12 months thereafter until they reach the top of the salary range.

Each salary step advancement will be approximately a 5% increase in salary.

The Community Colleges of Spokane is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual for the position of Career Service Supervisor in the SCC Counseling Division.

JOB SUMMARY

The Career Services Supervisor reports to the Associate Dean of Student Success and Workforce Transitions and provides career-related services and resources to help students make informed career decisions, conduct successful job searches, and make connections with employers and employment opportunities.

The Career Services Supervisor develops and facilitates projects, events, initiatives, and programming in collaboration with various Student Services and Instructional departments across campus.

This position is expected to combine a broad understanding of career services and development with knowledge of employment trends to assist students in developing meaningful career goals through a Guided Pathways lens.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership

  • Provide departmental leadership and personnel management for Career Services. *
  • Supervise full and part-time classified and student work-study employees (train, schedule, evaluate, discipline and respond to grievances).

Adhere to classified contracts and all district rules and regulations ensuring efficient operations of Career Services. *

  • Inform and educate staff about behavior and performance expectations, provide timely and accurate feedback regarding performance, and ensure performance and behavioral problems are corrected promptly and effectively. *
  • Demonstrate multicultural competence (including an awareness and understanding of historically minoritized populations) and maintain an educational and work environment that affirms commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion. *

Career Services

  • Provide direct services to students via individual and group services, including goal clarification, career exploration, and career assessment. *
  • Administer and interpret career inventories individually or in group settings. *
  • Use career-related technologies and resources to assist students, including managing online career services resources. *

Program Development

  • Plan and conduct workshops, career topic panels, and other educational programming covering pertinent employment topics such as resume writing, interview techniques, job searches, and placement processes. *
  • Develop and update online resources and materials. Prepare advertising copy and correspondence for recruitment purposes. *
  • Plan and execute career fairs, working with employers, faculty, and students. Plan, coordinate, and host additional campus career events. *
  • Maintain professional and productive relationships with employers, business partners, etc. to execute career services programming. *
  • Maintain records and data on student / campus participation rates and contribute to departmental reporting. *
  • Represent the college as appropriate in professional organizations related to career services.
  • Model professional decorum and mutual respect in all personal interactions. *
  • Comply with district policies, procedures and directives, state and federal regulations, orders and statutes and collective bargaining agreements. *
  • Support and advance the CCS strategic plan, and perform other duties as assigned. *
  • Indicates this is an essential duty.

This position is designated a bargaining unit position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate degree Or an equivalent mix of education and experience that demonstrates the candidate meets all competency requirements for this position.
  • Three years of experience working in career development, career counseling, employer relations, human resources or other related experience.
  • Experience working in higher education, preferably at a community college.
  • Demonstrated ability using effective listening and speaking skills to recruit, train / guide, supervise / lead and assess individuals, groups and activities, building collaborative relationships and working cooperatively with a wide range of individuals with diverse age, cultural / ethnic, ability and socio-economic backgrounds representing a broad spectrum of academic and multicultural interests.
  • Demonstrated ability in planning and implementing events and activities, organizing people : and simultaneously managing multiple projects to meet projected deadlines.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, think critically and exercise independent judgment.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office, specifically experience in creating & editing documents, spreadsheets and presentations as well as previous success learning new computer software programs / platforms.
  • Proficiency using social media tools such as Facebook, X, LinkedIn, etc. for outreach and communication purposes.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote universal design and accessibility. Proficiency in (or ability to learn within 6 month of hire) the production of accessibly content, whether print or electronic.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills; experience interpreting and applying complex policies and procedures;

knowledge of basic arithmetic; ability to effectively draw conclusions, analyze data, search for solutions and create systems to successfully manage budgets / resources and projects and effectively evaluate the performance of others.

  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff and community partners.
  • Experience or participation with persons from diverse backgrounds such as sexual orientation, racial, ethnic, religious, linguistic, gender, age, socio-economic, physical and learning abilities, and a commitment to an inclusive and equitable working / learning environment.
  • Ability to represent the college in a positive and professional manner, while using tact, discretion and courtesy.
  • Experience supervising staff / students.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in student personnel, higher education and administration, human resources / development, counseling or other related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with campus partners, as well as with community agencies or groups.
  • Knowledge of community college processes and procedures.

CONDITIONS / TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

TOTAL COMPENSATION WITH BENEFITS : $61,026 - $78,173.

Total compensation is an estimate based upon adding the following amounts together :

  • Base compensation of $44,400 - $59,616, plus
  • Current employer-paid health and related benefit contribution rates, plus
  • Median retirement fund contributions.

The actual total will vary depending upon each employee's enrollment choices.

Person hired must be able to provide acceptable documentation of U.S. Citizenship or lawful authorization to work in the United States.

This is an absolute condition of employment. An offer of employment will not carry with it any responsibility or obligation on the part of the district to sponsor an H1-B visa.

In addition, the Community Colleges of Spokane maintains a drug-free work environment and prohibits all smoking in the college buildings and state-owned vehicles.

Must be able to successfully work in and promote a multicultural work and education environment.

Prior to a new hire, a background check including criminal record history will be conducted. Information from the background check will not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant’s suitability and competence to perform in the position.

  • Work is performed in an office environment with frequent interruptions and background noise.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Full time schedule (12 months, 40 hours per week).
  • 6 month probationary period.
  • This position is overtime eligible.
  • Requires local or regional travel.
  • Criminal background check is required.
  • May be required to work alternate shift.
