Spokane Community College (SCC) seeks qualified candidates for an Integrated Basic Education & Skills Training (I-BEST) adjunct instructor. Through team teaching, this position is responsible to basic skills instruction to adult learners in the Aviation Maintenance Technology program.

 SCC is one of two accredited community colleges that comprise the Community Colleges of Spokane (CCS). We offer state-of-the-art career technical programs (approximately 50% of total enrollment) as well as liberal arts/transfer programs (about 25%) and basic education for adults (about 25%), In addition to serving the urban and suburban population in greater Spokane, CCS provides educational services to rural communities throughout a 12,302 square mile region in Eastern Washington. This region includes all of Spokane, Stevens, Whitman, Ferry, and Pend Oreille Counties as well as portions of Lincoln County.

The Community Colleges of Spokane is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual for the position of Aviation Maintenance Instructor in the SCC Aviation Mechanic Division. 
 
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Team teach with Aviation Maintenance instructors 
  • Responsible for preparing and teaching basic skills through contextualization in the Aviation Maintenance content areas; (writing, math, and college readiness skills). 
  • Plan with co-teacher classroom management, attendance policies, homework, and test policies.
  • Provide syllabus for class.
  • Follow up with students when absent. 
  • Provide timely feedback and support to students.
  • Maintain accurate records.
  • Proctor CASAS and/or other required assessments.
  • Complete required ABE paperwork.
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES:
  • Current Federal Aviation Administration Airframe and Powerplant Mechanic certificates.
  • Reciprocating engine ignition systems experience, including 500-hour inspections on Slick and Bendix magnetos, and troubleshooting.
  • Reciprocating engine fuel metering systems, including float carburetors and TCM fuel injection systems setup and troubleshooting.
  • Acceptance of the responsibility to promote the welfare and best interests of students at all times.
  • A demonstrable understanding and acceptance of the mission, values, goals and objectives of CCS.
  • The ability to perform assigned duties in a manner consistent with applicable laws, regulations and goals of the institution, community and technical college system.
  • A demonstrated understanding and value for the contributions that a diverse workforce can make to the success of the organization and the students we serve.
  • A combination of training and work experience or teaching in Aviation Maintenance, as evidenced through documented records of training programs completed, plus either:
    • Three years’ of relevant work experience in the field of Aviation Maintenance, or
    • Three years of relevant and recent teaching experience in Aviation Maintenance.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
PREFERRED COMPETENCIES:
  • Masters degree from an accredited college or university
  • Knowledge of a learning management systems such as CANVAS
  • An earned Associate’s degree in Aviation Maintenance or closely related field from an accredited institution.
  • Five years of recent experience in Aviation Maintenance.
  • Relevant teaching experience
  • Turbine engine fuel systems experience
  • Engine EGT and CHT instruments and related test equipment experience
  • Transport category maintenance experience
  • FAA Inspection Authorization Avionics/electronics experience
  • Private Pilot Certificate
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

This is an adjunct (part-time) position. Compensation will be pro-rated according to the amount of workload assigned. CCS reserves the right to cancel this recruitment without notice. Academic employees are represented by the Association of Higher Education (AHE), which is affiliated with NEA and WEA. Membership is optional.

Person hired must be able to provide acceptable documentation of U.S. Citizenship or lawful authorization to work in the United States. This is an absolute condition of employment. An offer of employment will not carry with it any responsibility or obligation on the part of the district to sponsor an H1-B visa.
