Banking & Finance Accountant

Hourly Salary Range: $21.01 - $24.30

SCOPE OF WORK: Performs accounting duties relative to the collecting, compiling, and reporting accounting data concerning financial transactions of expenditures and income in the Budget Management Bureau at the CCSNH. This position shall report to the Director of Financial Operations at CCSNH.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Downloads bank transactions into a spreadsheet; prepare journal entries for all incoming and outgoing cash transactions for 8 bank accounts. Distributes spreadsheet, and daily journal entries to each college bursar office, so that funds are applied to the student accounts appropriately.
  • Performs various bank functions such as canceling checks, positive pay, as needed and serves as the required second person for requested wire payments.
  • Prepares all journal entries affecting bank accounts to make sure that Banner and Citizens Bank statements are reconciled on a daily basis. Ensures that entries are entered and approved on a daily basis.
  • Keeps current with bank balances, examining trends, and advising upper management for the need to move funds between banks to cover large payments, and payroll.
  • Advises the Controller, college BAOs/CFO's, college bursar's and Chancellor's Office staff of any transactions requiring resolution of any issues involving cash, bank entries, and banner account discrepancies.
  • Coordinates with college bursars and finance officers to ensure that funds are accurately posted to student accounts and clearing accounts are done in a timely manner.
  • Prepares entry for dividends and gains and losses on investments.
  • Coordinate with the Director of Financial Operation on completing actions for resolution and records transaction to resolve the issue(s). Directs communication with the bank on account discrepancies and any issues that are identified.
  • Process finance help desk tickets in regard to new vendor code establishments or updates and any banner finance canceling checks.
  • Assists in maintaining the chart of accounts in banner finance: creating newly requested funds, departments, and accounts.
  • Assists the System Controller in the completion of periodic general ledger and payroll account reconciliations.
  • Assists in approving invoice’s for CCSNH Account and any capital funded invoices.
  • Performs reconciliations as assigned.
  • Complies with all college, system, state and federal rules and regulations.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Bachelor’s degree from a recognized college or university with major study in accounting or business administration. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.

Experience: One year of experience in accounting or auditing work. Each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.

License/Certification: Valid driver's license or access to transportation for statewide travel.

RECOMMENDED WORK TRAITS: Knowledge of accounting principles and methods and ability to apply and adapt established methods to accounting transactions. Knowledge of office practices and procedures. Ability to perform detailed work involving written or numerical data and to make arithmetical calculations rapidly and accurately. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and the public. Must be willing to maintain appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined by CCSNH.
