OVERVIEW OF CCA
The Community College of Aurora (CCA) is a dynamic institution that is committed to serving its diverse student population through innovations in instruction and student support founded on principles of equity and inclusion. In addition to traditional degree and certificate programs, CCA offers non-credit professional development courses, customized training, and economic and workforce development resources to employer partners and individual professionals seeking to enhance the capacity and productivity of their workforce or individual knowledge and skills. POSITION SUMMARY
This full-time position is responsible for Systems and Operations in the Cashier's Office. Position will work closely with the Bursar, Assistant Controller, Controller, staff accountants and other members of Student Services staff to design and implement effective and efficient Cashiering processes. Assists with planning, developing, implementing and administering all phases of Cashier duties. Oversees ongoing staff training and participating in the development, documentation, implementation, and monitoring of policies and procedures necessary to ensure compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations. This position will oversee processing areas including cash receipts, cash deposits, third party billing, collection of past due accounts, internal cash controls, procedure documentation, reconciliations and serving students on occasion. Directly supervises Cashier's Office staff including hiring, training, establishing benchmarks and work goals and scheduling staff in the cashier's office. Every CCA faculty and staff member is expected to participate in the assessment process of the college, utilizing the results of assessment for continuous institutional improvement.
Examples of Duties / Knowledge & Skills
  • Manage the day-to-day activities of the cashier's office; including hiring, training, cross training, supervising, and scheduling the Cashier Office staff to ensure proper coverage.
  • Ensure cash controls are established and followed.
  • Establish measurements and benchmarks of work performed within the Cashier's Office.
  • Explain Cashier's Office policies and practices to non- accounting users.
  • Resolve student accounting disputes and discrepancies caused by system or human error.
  • Communicate resolution of discrepancies to students and staff.
  • Work in a dynamic environment with multiple responsibilities.
  • Complete performance plans, reviews, and evaluations of staff.
  • Follow-up with corrective and disciplinary actions up to and including termination when needed.
  • Oversee the timely and accurate processing of all Cashier's Office workflow including student payments, interdepartmental processing and posting of charges and reconciliation of accounts.
  • Assist with and oversee monitoring and timely collection of unpaid receivables, third party sponsor processes, collections processes and documentation of all Cashier's Office procedures.
  • Ensure daily bank deposits are timely and accurate.
  • Monitor cashier functions for compliance with accounting standards, State Fiscal Rules, and College policies and procedures.
  • Works with senior leadership to develop, establish and implement policies and procedures specific to the unit's function in compliance with all federal, state and institutional policies.
  • Works with Bursar, Fiscal and other Student Services Staff to promote an atmosphere of customer service that supports the Vision and Mission Statements of the College.
  • Recommend methods to improve cash and accounting controls.
  • Explain steps and documents required to deposit revenue, process refunds, and process collections.
  • While reviewing postings, bank statements, and work processes, detect violations of State Fiscal rules, College Policy, incomplete or inconsistent supporting documentation, and resolve.
  • Provide guidance to internal departments, students and third parties regarding the billing and collections process.
  • Follow written and verbal instruction.
  • Perform back-up duties for and cross train with Bursar to ensure business continuity and other duties as assigned.
Minimum qualifications & Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Management, Accounting or related field from an accredited College or University or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Three years demonstrated experience training, coaching, developing, and empowering staff.
  • Experience in establishing benchmarks and goals
  • One to three years supervisory and office management experience.
  • Microsoft Office Suite experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience in assessment for continuous improvement
  • Experience with State of Colorado accounting functions, cash management, accounts receivable processes, and collections rules.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to communicate at a variety of levels with staff and management.
  • Ability to work as a part of an administrative team and foster a team environment
  • Previous training experience, with ability to understand and provide training to learners/staff with multiple skill sets.
  • Higher education experience
  • Two to three years' experience in a cashiering environment.
  • Experience with Banner or other student information systems.
Supplemental information
Salary Range: $46,074.00-$52,000.00. CCA offers an excellent benefit plan, including generous leave, holiday, and education benefits. Full time employees immediately upon hire earn 15 hours a month annual leave and 10 hours a month sick leave.
