OVERVIEW OF CCA
The Community College of Aurora (CCA) is a dynamic institution that is committed to serving its diverse student population through innovations in instruction and student support founded on principles of equity and inclusion. CCA is a public, two-year community college serving Aurora and east metro Denver and has been designated as a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) by the U.S. Department of Education.
CCA enrolls 11,000 students annually, over 62% of whom are students of color, including nearly 32% Hispanic students. 65% of CCA students receive some type of financial aid, including 52% of whom receive Pell grants, and nearly two-thirds are first-generation college students. In addition to traditional degree and certificate programs, CCA offers non-credit professional development courses, customized training, and economic and workforce development resources to employer partners and individual professionals seeking to enhance the capacity and productivity of their workforce or individual knowledge and skills. The college centers our Inclusive Excellence work and applies an equity lens to everything we do.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Community College of Aurora (CCA), under the leadership of President, Dr. Mordecai Ian Brownlee, is establishing the Division of Enrollment Management & Strategic Communications. The goal of this new division is to meet enrollment goals by crafting strategies and prioritizing resources through a comprehensive, future-oriented strategic enrollment management plan In addition, the division will create recruitment content for targeted populations. Under the leadership of the VP of Enrollment Management & Strategic Communications, the Director of Marketing & Strategic Communications will lead, collaborate with, and inspire a team of strategists dedicated to advance the institutional mission.
We are seeking an accomplished leader, collaborator, and motivator who will serve a critical role in ushering the Community College of Aurora into its next era of student success and performance excellence through the development of a branding process and strategies, innovative marketing campaigns, and strategic internal/external communication initiatives.
Examples of Duties / Knowledge & Skills
Director of Marketing & Strategic Communications
  • This position reports to the Vice President of Enrollment Management & Strategic Communications and exercises direct supervision over employees in the Office of Marketing and Strategic Communications.
  • Collaborate with the Vice President of Enrollment Management & Strategic Communications; the Dean of Assessment, Strategy, and Performance Excellence; Vice President of Academic Success; and other appropriate departments/divisions to strategize and create a plan and budget for an all-inclusive marketing approach, including advertising on traditional, digital, and streaming platforms (website, print materials, e-newsletters, social media, etc.).
  • Create and implement brand guidelines for the institution, including brand mark, typography graphics, and photography; and brand resources, including design templates and pillars to support consistency in communications.
  • Manage advertising in-house, as well as with third-party vendors, to place media ads on TV, digital spots, etc.
  • Serve as the public information officer (PIO), maintaining open and positive lines of communication with local communities and the media, including writing and distributing news releases, broadcast information, coordinating interviews, public service announcements and feature articles.
  • Oversee the day-to-day planning and publishing of social media campaigns within department.
  • Ensure department engages college liaisons to ensure consistent and timely content is being developed, monitoring online conversations and building engagement through direct interactions online for the needs of brand advocacy.
  • Ensure college website content is regularly updated and compliant with regulations; including web accessibility.
  • Provide editing support including proof reading, error checking, and fact checking, and production support for a variety of marketing materials in different formats (video, print, digital).
  • Support the Office of the President, including writing or overseeing speeches and statements, supporting event planning, preparing background and briefing materials and developing special communications.
  • Assess branding and marketing efforts for effectiveness and maintain current knowledge of trends to inform decision-making and goal setting.
  • Enforce brand standards across all creative projects, promotional campaigns, special events and initiatives by the college.
  • Build a culture of collaboration with internal partners including college administrators and the CCA Foundation.
  • Collaborate with the Office of the President and the CCA Foundation to develop a fall and spring CCA Magazine to highlight the accomplishments of the college and its students.
  • Interpret the purpose, philosophy and vision of the Community College of Aurora to the general public.
  • Represent the College at various community activities and other functions as assigned by the VP of Enrollment & Strategic Communications and/or President.
  • Work collaboratively with college staff, faculty, and instructors.
  • Work special events and functions on nights and weekends, as necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum qualifications & Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in English, journalism, communications, marketing, fine arts, or other related fields.
  • Excellent communication skills including publication-level writing and editing
  • Excellent collaboration and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to work under the pressure of very tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends to support events.
  • Ability to quickly assess unforeseen situations, use sound and thoughtful judgment to make decisions and problem-solve.
  • 3 years managing social media profiles on behalf of an organization, including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and additional channels deemed relevant.
  • Superior attention to detail, proofreading and editing skills.
  • Leadership and supervisory experience, including demonstrated staff management skills.
  • Commitment to working with a diverse and inclusive community.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in marketing/communications or related field and five (5) years of experience.
Supplemental information
Salary Range: Anticipated starting salary is $70,000.00-$75,000.00. CCA offers an excellent benefit plan, including generous leave, holiday, and education benefits. Full time employees immediately upon hire earn 15 hours a month annual leave and 10 hours a month sick leave.
