OVERVIEW OF CCA
The Community College of Aurora serves our diverse community by providing high-quality instruction and support services to prepare students for transfer and employment. CCA enrolls 11,000 students annually, over 62% of whom are students of color, including nearly 32% Hispanic students, 65% of CCA students receive some type of financial aid, including 52% of whom receive Pell grants, and nearly two-thirds are first-generation college students.
More than 20 different languages and 60 countries are represented at CCA. In addition to traditional degree and certificate programs, CCA offers non-credit professional development courses, customized training, and economic and workforce development resources to employer partners and individual professionals seeking to enhance the capacity and productivity of their workforce or individual knowledge and skills.

POSITION SUMMARY
This position works with the non-credit Community English as a Second Language (ESL) program at the Community College of Aurora (CCA) Lowry campus. The Community ESL (CESL) program has an extremely diverse student base, serving immigrants and refugees from approximately one-third of the countries in the world. We strive to provide the best learning experience and the most welcoming environment possible.
The Coordinator provides general administrative and instructional support for CESL, including the program's ESL and Citizenship classes, under the direction of the Community ESL Program Director.
The ideal candidate has knowledge of pedagogy and curricula related to ESL. A strong commitment to helping the individuals whom we serve from the Aurora/Denver-area immigrant and refugee communities is a requirement of the position. Dependability, strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to providing superior customer service are vital to the success of this position, as well as technical proficiency in basic office software and experience with data entry. Working some evening and Saturday hours will be required.
Examples of Duties / Knowledge & Skills
  • Recruit adult ESL students and publicize the program to the community
  • Assist students in transitioning to other CCA programs, including College Prep ESL
  • Refer students to campus and community resources as needed
  • Coordinate pre and post-testing of students when needed
  • Keep office hours and respond to student, staff, and community questions and requests
  • Work with Program Director to ensure program curriculum is relevant and reflects the latest developments in the field of ESL
  • Collaborate on the development of new programs and initiatives
  • Attend relevant trainings to keep current in the fields of Adult Education and ESL
  • Conduct research as needed to support development of program-wide digital literacy and build capacity for integrated career and workforce instruction
  • Conduct class observations and provide feedback to instructors and to the Program Director
  • Update and maintain the Community ESL Instructor Handbook
  • Participate in and contribute to the development of CESL staff meetings
  • Contribute to creation and delivery of Professional Development opportunities for instructors based on instructor input
  • Support instructors and students in online instruction and in the use of online platforms including Adobe PDF, Microsoft Teams, and Google Classroom
  • Maintain program databases, including records of student enrollment, attendance, and testing, with accuracy
  • Participate in all student registrations, including Banner and Access student data input
  • Collect and analyze program data for marketing and to better inform programmatic decisions
  • Verify, update, and retrieve data as requested for distribution to other College departments and community partners
  • Create, update, and distribute flyers and other marketing materials
  • Incorporate the core principles of Inclusive Excellence in daily interactions and activities, and engage in the college's broader Inclusive Excellence efforts as appropriate
  • Other duties as assigned
Minimum qualifications & Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent
  • At least 1 year of ESL teaching experience
  • Demonstrated excellence in interpersonal, organizational, written and oral communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access), database programs, and the use of email
  • Commitment to diversity and inclusion
  • Availability to work a flexible schedule as needed
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Degree or Certificate in TESOL, Applied Linguistics, Education, or related field
  • Two or more years of adult ESL teaching experience
  • Familiarity with the CASAS and TABE assessments
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently
  • Experience working with people from diverse language groups
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the Aurora/Denver immigrant communities
  • Familiarity with Banner student information system
  • Interest in computers and the use of technology in ESL teaching and outreach
  • Bilingual speaker of English and Spanish
Supplemental information
Salary Range: Anticipated starting salary range: $52,786.00.00. This salary is determined by the qualifications of the selected candidate balanced with departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information. CCA offers an excellent benefit plan, including generous leave, holiday, and education benefits. Full time employees immediately upon hire earn 15 hours a month annual leave and 10 hours a month sick leave.
