The Community College of Aurora serves our diverse community by providing high-quality instruction and support services to prepare students for transfer and employment. CCA enrolls 11,000 students annually, over 62% of whom are students of color, including nearly 32% Hispanic students, 65% of CCA students receive some type of financial aid, including 52% of whom receive Pell grants, and nearly two-thirds are first-generation college students.
More than 20 different languages and 60 countries are represented at CCA. In addition to traditional degree and certificate programs, CCA offers non-credit professional development courses, customized training, and economic and workforce development resources to employer partners and individual professionals seeking to enhance the capacity and productivity of their workforce or individual knowledge and skills. POSITION SUMMARY
Workforce Development
The successful candidate will support and strengthen relationships with industry partners to address workforce needs for upskilling, reskilling, and new skilling employees and assist in creating solutions for talent supply and demand. Support the development and coordination of an organization-wide approach to incorporating work-based learning into the curriculum.The position provides relevant, timely, and accurate information to all stakeholders in support of the economic indicators in workforce, livable wage and career pathways, strategic planning, budgeting, and data informed decision-making processes in the department and at the College. The Assistant Director of Workforce Development, in collaboration with the Dean, plays a critical role linking planning, budget, and program development and provides information and analysis impacting students, budgets, research activity, human resources, financial analysis, strategic planning, policy recommendations.
Customized Training
This individual will oversee project planning, budget preparation and presentation, training development, instructor sourcing and scheduling, and implementation with partner agencies to support the overall related workforce development goals. The successful candidate will report to and collaborate with the Dean and is responsible for organizing, implementing, and administering the Customized Training Program.
Apprenticeships/Internships
Reporting to the Dean, the Assistant Director of Workforce Management will oversee the internship and apprenticeship programs. Under the direction of the Dean, the successful candidate will collaboratively drive and execute the development of the registered apprenticeship program at CCA in conjunction industry partners and the U.S. Department of Labor Registered Apprenticeship Program. The Internship Program Manager plays a vital role in developing and executing innovative internship and apprenticeship programs and early career strategies that support talent acquisition and diversity priorities.
The successful candidate will interface with students to help mentor and coach students in finding internships and works collaboratively with Career Services to provide students with strategies and support on how to find full-time work, career coaching, and workshops and seminars.
Examples of Duties / Knowledge & Skills
General Workforce Development
  • Assists with hiring and training the Apprenticeship/Internship Coordinator and Customized Training Coordinator as well as student navigators.
  • Collaborate on the development and submission of grant proposals, and manage grant administration to including tracking data and expenditures and writing grant reports
  • Incorporate and engage in the principles of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in daily interactions and activities.
  • Support strategic workforce planning and strategy alignment by building, collaborating, maintaining, and fostering productive relationships with community and industry partners, faculty and instructors, administration, student organizations, and other entities
  • Compile and analyze data to develop timely and clear reporting of progress and roadblocks, project outcomes and key metrics
  • Manages the Workforce Development Department budget, regularly monitoring the status of expenditures and implementing cost control methods and productivity standards outlined by the Dean.
  • Remains current in discipline, industry and career happenings, and instructional methods through professional development activities offered by the College and other opportunities including attendance at off- campus activities, webinars, conferences etc., as feasible
  • Participates in programs, departmental and institutional meetings, and other announced co-curricular activities of the College
Customized Training
  • Lead project implementation that includes a regular cadence of touchpoints providing ongoing project strategies and timelines to ensure deliverables meet project objectives
  • Effectively work with industry partners to ensure the training plans and requirements are up-to-date and accurate; manages changes to plans, as needed, due to priority and need changes.
  • Assist with grant management for customized training programs
Apprenticeship/Internships
  • Under the direction of the Dean, responsible for designing & building comprehensive internship and apprenticeship programs, collaborating with internal stakeholders on the strategy, development, and execution of the programming to build and maintain a highly skilled workforce.
  • Assist students in preparing for internship and apprenticeship opportunities.
  • Structuring and facilitating the internship experience from orientation to candidate conversion including activities, tracking training hours, ensure apprentices are working within their qualifications, manager training, check-ins, student presentations
  • Evaluate and maintain effective communication with mentors and apprentices through the rotations
  • Organize and promote the strategic recruitment efforts of apprenticeships by appearing before employers, labor and community groups, and organizations.
  • With industry partners and other stakeholders, provides guidance and develops a process for evaluating interns/apprentices for the purpose of identifying strengths and weaknesses
  • Develops and maintains an internship/apprenticeship training catalog outlining all internal and external opportunities
  • Other duties as assigned
Minimum qualifications & Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in relevant field
  • Demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience
  • Experience managing projects, including monitoring project scope and budget, creating project schedules, managing project resources, resolving issues, and reporting status
  • Knowledge and experience with grant implementation, reporting, and close out
  • One or more years of client facing customer service
  • Analytical, problem solving, and decision-making skills
  • Ability to leverage data and analytics to identify solutions
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment and maintain a sense of urgency
  • Organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Results-oriented mindset with a drive to achieve success
  • Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information with maximum discretion

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master's Degree in Business, Education, or related field
  • Experience managing/building an internship and apprenticeship programs from inception
  • Two or more years of Workforce Development experience
  • Experience in developing and implementing training programs in educational or other organizations
  • Training and program development background. Comfortable building programs in concert with specified needs of the organization
  • Solid understanding of sourcing techniques and tools (e.g., social networks).
  • Expertise to influence across various leadership levels
  • Experience in non-profits organizations, residential programs, and/or start-ups.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the Aurora/Denver immigrant communities
  • Familiarity with Banner student information system
Supplemental information
Salary Range: Anticipated starting salary range: $64,000.00. This salary is determined by the qualifications of the selected candidate balanced with departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information. CCA offers an excellent benefit plan, including generous leave, holiday, and education benefits. Full time employees immediately upon hire earn 15 hours a month annual leave and 10 hours a month sick leave. Public Service Student Loan Forgiveness Program (PSLF) qualified employer.
