Description :
Overview : Responsible for transporting children to and from school, following a preplanned route according to schedule.
Drives bus carefully and in compliance with traffic regulations. Assumes responsibility for the safety of the children in loading, unloading and transporting them.
Instruct children in safety precautions and practices. Monitors student behavior and reports to supervisor when necessary.
Keeps operational records and reports defects or problems with vehicles. Maintains a neat environment. Performs related work as required.
Starting $18 per hour
Classification : Non-Exempt Hourly (seasonal)
Reports to : Program Director
Duties & Responsibilities
Transport children to and from public schools as assigned by the schedule and operate the buses in a safe, approved manner.
Provide transport for assigned field trips and in other instances when requested by the immediate supervisor, Assistant Director or an authorized supervisor.
have work completed on a timely basis arranging the schedule for the least interference to Center use of buses.
Keep vehicles properly fueled at approved stations and follow procedures for payment of same. Make note of and recommend repairs or maintenance not normally scheduled but needing attention.
Secure approval for all costs and work.
Perform a daily safety check of buses before transporting children. This should include all mechanical parts, tires, mirrors, horn, windshield wipers, brakes, doors, seats, windows;
never use a vehicle that is not in proper working order.
On most instances, the driver should work with the adult assistant assigned to the bus to see that all phases of the transportation are conducted in a safe manner.
This includes boarding and exiting the bus, children remaining seated during travel, reasonable conduct on the bus, filling out attendance sheets for all transported children, signing them into the Centers after pickup and delivery, clearing the bus after arrival to be certain that all have exited.
