Position Overview: 

The Physician Advisor participates in utilization management and quality management activities relating to the behavioral health and substance use care provided to Community Behavioral Health members. The Physician Advisor conducts medical necessity reviews, peer reviews, interacts with clinical providers of mental health services, and performs clinical chart reviews related to quality improvement activities in the network.

Essential Functions: 

• Review cases from multiple sites and levels of care for medical necessity. 
• Peer review cases for disputed levels of care.
• Perform chart reviews related to quality-of-care inquiries.
• Participate in clinical and administrative meetings.
• Interact with providers on clinical and administrative matters.
• Serve as a consultant for Clinical Care Managers.
• Serve as a consultant to Quality Management staff.

Position Requirements: 

• Education: Medical degree (MD or DO)
• License/Certification: PA Licensure; Board Certified in Adult or Child Psychiatry 
• Relevant Work Experience: Minimum of 5 years of clinical psychiatry experience
• Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
• Problem solving and analytical skills
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Strong decision making skills
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Philadelphia Residency Requirement:

• The successful candidate must be a current Philadelphia resident or become a resident within six months of hire.
