HOURS: Monday – Friday, 30-40 hours per week.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Assists the Lead Teacher in planning and carrying out a quality preschool program. Assumes Lead Teacher role when the Lead Teacher is absent.

PROGRAM RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Assists with the planning and preparation of the daily and weekly program plans and activities, considering the needs of children in full day, full year programs, if applicable.
  • Engages in appropriate adult-child interactions carefully attending to the social/emotional relationship.
  • Participates in the daily activities planned for the children.
  • Assists in planning and carrying out individual activities for specific children.
  • Assists in daily classroom routines such as food preparation, toileting, tooth brushing and rest time.
  • Assists with the clean-up of the classroom each day to ensure that all areas are organized and in safe repair for the next day’s program.
  • Participates in the daily review of classroom activities and children’s behaviors.
  • Actively supervises all children inside and outside of the classroom by following the Supervision of Children policy and zoning procedures.
  • Consults with the Lead Teacher when a problem arises.
  • Becomes familiar with the center policies, Head Start requirements and NH Child Care Licensing regulations.
  • Is responsible for paperwork and computer documentation as assigned by the Lead Teacher.
  • Attends Head start training programs and continues to gain knowledge and expertise in child development and early childhood education, the principles of child health, disability, safety and nutrition; adult learning principles; and family dynamics.
  • Communicates sensitively with parents and supports parent involvement in the program particularly during pick up and drop off times.
  • Attends monthly center parent meetings and provides child care at these meetings when requested by the Lead Teacher or Site Manager.
  • Demonstrates a strong commitment to the dignity and privacy of each family, keeping all family information confidential.
  • Assumes the Lead Teacher role when the Lead Teacher is absent.
  • Maintains a positive and productive attitude regarding Head Start, Child Care and the CAP Agency when interacting both within the Head Start setting as well as the greater community.
  • Demonstrates through positive words and actions, respect for and acceptance of income eligible and working families.

  • Present a professional and positive image as a representative of CAPBM.
  • Follow established policies and procedures and comply with all safety requirements.
  • Communicate proactively with the supervisor regarding workflow, problems, suggestions, etc.
  • Contribute to a positive, team-oriented work environment; and attend team and staff meetings as scheduled.
  • Be punctual for scheduled work, use time appropriately, and complete work in a timely fashion with minimal errors.

Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience:

  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Two years of experience working with preschool children.
  • Experience interacting with parents and families of young children.

Education:

  • High School diploma or equivalency credential.
  • Child Development Associate (CDA) credential, OR
  • Be enrolled in a CDA credential program, OR
  • Possess or be enrolled in an Associate degree program in any field with a minimum of three (3) Early Childhood Education courses, one of which must be Child Growth and Development.

License/Certification:

  • Successful completion of criminal record check.
  • Current physical examination report kept on file.
  • Valid driver’s license with access to reliable transportation for required travel.
