CAPSLO Mission, Vision and Core Values
Position Summary:
Assists the Adult Day Center Site Supervisor and staff with the daily program of care for seniors experiencing memory loss and/or Alzheimer’s like symptoms. Supports CAPSLO’s mission by providing assistance with the directing of activities and assisting with personal care of clients while they are attending the Adult Day Center.
Required Education and Experience:
  • Level I:
  • High School Diploma/G.E.D. or equivalent.
  • Level II:
  • One to two years of experience in a social, recreational or health care program or two years college education in a related field such as gerontology, recreation, occupational therapy, music/art or dance therapy. A combination of education and experience may be used to meet the above requirements.
  • Level III:
  • Must be a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).
Preferred Education and Experience:
  • Level I, II, III:
  • Experience working with older individuals, persons with disabilities, or those with dementia is preferred.
License & Certifications:
  • Must provide certificate of completion of an approved first aid and CPR class within 30 days of hire.
Essential Functions:
  • Under the direction of the Site Supervisor, implements and plans program activities that include recreation, exercise, socialization, nutrition, and education designed to meet the needs and interests of the senior clients of the program.
  • Greets and orients clients. Accurately records client arrival and departure times and other information related to client schedules, specific needs, etc.
  • Assists clients with the use of mobility aids and with transfers to prevent falls. Monitors client movement around the center and provides supervision for clients in all areas of the center to assure client safety.
  • Prepares snacks and serves meals. Cleans and maintains kitchen in compliance with ServSafe protocols.
  • Assists clients with personal care including medication reminders, toileting and hygiene on a daily basis.
  • Keeps Adult Day Center Site Supervisor and/or Program Manager informed of changes in client physical status, behavior and interactions with family caregivers and needed program supplies.
  • Assists with daily maintenance and clean-up of facility.
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings and in-service training and reviews other safety and client related information as provided.
  • Displays or develops an understanding of the nature of cognitive impairment/dementia and uses diplomacy and non-confrontational communication skills to direct and respond to senior clients.
Additional Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Maintains good communication and cooperative working relationships with all staff, clients, volunteers, and family caregivers.
  • Opens and closes premises, when necessary.
  • Must follow all related procedures and protocols regarding potential exposure to bodily fluids or blood-borne pathogens in the workplace.
  • Must use reasonable precautions in the performance of one’s duties and adhere/follow all applicable safety rules and practices; and act in such a manner as to assure at all times maximum safety to one’s self, fellow employees, clients and caregivers.
  • Performs other duties as needed.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge
  • Must display understanding of client confidentiality concerns and requirements and maintain client confidentiality at all times. Completes annual CDA's Privacy and Information Security Awareness Training and understands his or her responsibility for protecting CDA information assets.
Skills
  • Must have demonstrated responsibility, reliability and capability.
Abilities
  • Must be able to work with minimum supervision.
  • Must be able to relate well to all people of the community regardless of color, national origin, religion, sex, pregnancy, age, marital status, veteran status, sexual orientation, disability or socio-economic level.
  • Must be able to communicate and work cooperatively with others.
  • Must understand, uphold, and continue working toward accomplishing the mission, strategic goals and performance measures of the agency.
Supervisory Responsibility:
  • This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities. May serve as an assistant to or substitute for the Site Supervisor.
Work Environment:
  • Requires working indoors at various agency and community settings with some exposure to copier and printer chemicals/fumes.
  • The work environment may include some exposure to aerosol transmissible diseases (ATD). As part of an employee health and safety program, personal protective equipment is provided as needed.
Physical Demands:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
Physical:
  • Requires twisting, lifting, bending, carrying, pulling, pushing, and reaching.
  • Also requires intermittent sitting, walking, and standing.
  • Must be able to lift 30 pounds.
  • Simple grasping and hand manipulation required, as well as reaching above and below shoulder level.
Travel:
  • Travel maybe required occasionally for training purposes.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications:
  • Must be at least 18 years of age by date of hire.
  • Must submit proof of current vaccination status for measles, pertussis, and influenza (or a current, signed influenza declination form) in compliance with SB 792.
  • Must comply with the CAPSLO COVID-19 Vaccination Policy, either being fully vaccinated or have an approved exemption.
  • Must complete a health screening physical completed within 30 days prior to employment and a current TB skin test/Chest X-Ray.
  • Employment is contingent upon meeting all job requirements and background requirements: criminal history check (Inclusive of DOJ, FBI and Child Abuse), acknowledgement of child abuse reporting responsibility, criminal record statement (Form LIC508), etc. A criminal history clearance is required prior to employment.
  • Upon hire agency staff will check the Megan’s Law (or the current sexual predator website) to ensure each staff being hired is clear for employment. Program administrative staff will check the website annually to ensure all program staff are cleared to work.
  • Must meet the Head Start Performance Standards and State requirements.
  • Employment in Head Start, Early Head Start and Migrant and Seasonal Head Start Programs is contingent upon approval of the Policy Council.
