Community Action Partnership of San Luis Obispo County, Inc. is Hiring a Weatherization Installer Near Salinas, CA
Position Summary:Installs basic weatherization measures and performs minor home repairs on designated homes for funded weatherization programs.Required Education and Experience:Must have High School Diploma or GED.Level I: Requires a minimum of six months experience in home weatherization, home repair and/or construction. Level II: Requires a minimum of two years experience in home weatherization or comparable construction experience, and completion of Basic Weatherization training. Level III: Requires a minimum of three years experience in home weatherization or comparable construction experience. Must have own power and hand tools needed to perform work, including power saws, drills and hand tools. Level IV: Requires a minimum of five years related experience with at least three years in a weatherization program. Must have own power and hand tools needed to perform work, including power saws, drills and hand tools.Preferred Education and Experience:Level I: Weatherization background preferred.License & Certifications:Must have a valid California Driver License and acceptable driving record. A DMV printout will be required.Essential Functions (Level I, II, III, & IV):Installs weather-stripping, caulking, showerheads, water heater blankets, insulation and other weatherization measures, and performs minor home repairs according to program specifications.Maintains accurate records of work performed and materials used on the job.Maintains accurate records of material inventory on vehicles.Performs duties in shop and warehouse including carpentry, inventory, clean-up, and routine maintenance of vehicles and equipment.Performs corrections on any failed inspections of weatherized homes and completes correction paperwork.Inspects homes to determine amount of materials needed and repairs to be made.Trains new and existing staff as required.Attends meetings, workshops and trainings as determined necessary by Program Director.Maintains positive relations with customers, staff and utility company representatives.Performs outreach and assessment for energy programs as needed.Must use reasonable precautions in the performance of one’s duties and adhere to all applicable safety rules and practices; and act in such a manner as to assure at all times maximum safety to one’s self, fellow employees, clients and children.Performs other duties as needed.Additional Responsibilities and Duties (Level II, III & IV): Performs monthly inventory of shop and vehicles.Acts as lead Installer when working with Installer I or Trainees on crew.Additional Responsibilities and Duties (Level IV):Supervises attic insulation work crew.Monitors material inventory and advises Energy Program staff regarding purchasing needs.Maintains minor maintenance of attic truck (oil check/change, engine cleaning, etc.)Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:KnowledgeMust have a working knowledge of safe and proper use of power tools and equipment, both power and hand operated. Must have knowledge of basic safety procedures, use reasonable precautions at all times in the performance of duties, and act in such a manner as to assure maximum safety to one’s self, fellow employees, and the public.SkillsBasic carpentry skills.Basic automotive maintenance skills.AbilitiesMust be self-motivated and able to work with a minimum of supervision.Must have the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.Must be able to relate well to all people of the community regardless of color, national origin, religion, sex, pregnancy, age, marital status, veteran status, sexual orientation, disability or socio-economic level. Must understand, uphold, and continue working toward accomplishing the mission, strategic goals and performance measures of the agency.Supervisory Responsibility:Level IV Weatherization Installer has supervisory responsibility for attic insulation work crew.Work Environment:Work environment is in dark, cramped quarters and in conditions with exposure to dust, sawdust, pollens, fiberglass and cellulose insulation.Physical Demands:The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.PhysicalPosition requires bending, stooping, twisting, reaching above and below shoulder level. Must be able to lift up to 60 pounds. Requires grasping and hand manipulation and occasional crawling, kneeling, climbing and overhead reaching and lifting. Requires prolonged standing, sitting and driving.Travel:Position requires frequent travel throughout the countyAdditional Eligibility Qualifications:Must be at least 18 years of age by date of hire. Must comply with the CAPSLO COVID-19 Vaccination Policy, either being fully vaccinated or sign a COVID-19 vaccination declination form.Based on program, a current TB skin test/Chest X-Ray may be required. Employment is contingent upon meeting all applicable job requirements and background requirements. A criminal history clearance is required prior to employment. Upon hire, agency staff will check the Megan’s Law (or the current sexual predator website) to ensure each staff being hired is clear for employment. Agency staff will check the website annually to ensure all program staff are cleared to work. Must pass pre-employment drug test, and post-employment random alcohol and drug testing.
