Do you like working with young children ages 6 weeks to 4 years old? We are looking for nurturing caregivers to assist classroom teachers and teacher assistants with the daily care and education of young children as well as cleaning responsibilities; Looking for part-time and full time positions 30-40 hours per week. Extra hours may be required. May have summers off.

Summary:

The Community Action Agency of Siouxland is committed to providing high quality services to families and ensuring school readiness for all enrolled children. This position will provide classroom support to the teacher and teacher assistant in providing high-quality early education and child development services for enrolled children. Individuals must serve as an effective role model and possess high quality standards. Children’s health and safety must be of high priority.

Supervisory Responsibilities: No

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to Agency Personnel Policies, Head Start policies and procedures, Performance Standards and State Licensing Standards.
  • Work cooperatively with center team and provide direct support in classrooms assisting the teacher and teacher assistant.
  • Maintain staff to child ratio and ensure children’s safety at all times.
  • Ensure the appropriate supervision and safety of children abiding by the program’s Supervision Plan & Emergency Procedures, preventing & attending to injuries, and reporting suspected child abuse.
  • Work to maintain a healthy classroom and complete daily cleaning and disinfecting responsibilities.
  • Maintain a warm, nurturing, positive environment so all children feel successful.
  • Support an educational environment following the curriculum to ensure school readiness.
  • When able, collect anecdotal notes on children’s development.
  • Exhibit classroom control while promoting the use of positive behavior interventions and supports and abiding by the program’s Behavior Management Policy.
  • Participate in family style snack and mealtimes; never using food as reward or punishment, or forcing a child to finish their food.
  • Monitor children in the restroom, classroom, and outdoors.
  • Provide a relaxing rest time environment, rubbing backs to help children fall asleep; never forcing a child to nap or rest, instead providing quiet learning activities for those not needing to nap or rest.
  • Assist children in the bathroom, washing hands, and potty training if applicable.
  • Encourage children in to participate in physical activity; never using physical activity as a reward or punishment.
  • Conduct open communication with parents when needed.
  • Complete necessary paperwork in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Be responsible for other job duties in absence of the teacher, teacher assistant, or food aide.
  • Follow cleaning procedures to maintain a clean and sanitary classroom.
  • Attend trainings and meetings.
  • Able to work flexible hours.
  • Foster a positive work environment that promotes teamwork and harmony.
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance

Have a combination of education and experience to enhance ability to work with young children, high level of interest and concern for the young child, good communication skills to insure effective interaction with parents and children.

  • Able to stand, walk, sit, bend, stoop, push and pull regularly.
  • Lift up to 10 pounds often; lift up to 20 pounds occasionally; lift over 30 pounds rarely.
  • Will need to acquire certification in CPR, Mandatory Child Abuse Reporting, and First Aid within 90 days employment.
  • Must pass pre-employment physical exam
  • Must have philosophical agreement with agency's mission, goals, and objectives.

Education and/or Experience:

Classroom Aide I (level 1) - Possess a high school diploma or equivalent.

Classroom Aide II (level 2) – Possess a high school diploma or equivalent and a Child Development Associate Credential or have an Associate or Bachelor degree in any area.
