Job Description

The Licensed Counselor will coordinate the provision of counseling and social services in a public-school setting, to students and their families' facing obstacles to academic and personal success. (This job title was changed from Clinical Case Worker)

This position is part of the Project AWARE grant that will provide East Central ISD students with behavior health supports to improve their success in school.  

Primary Responsibilities & Essential Functions

Intake & Assessment

  • Complete intake and conduct initial assessment with referred students and their parent or guardian.
  • Complete individual assessments and treatment plan to address mental health or emotional needs of clients.
  • Communicate with appropriate CIS and school staff on a regular basis to seek input and report on student progress, case status and counseling needs.

Service Provision

  • Provide individual and group counseling to address mental health or emotional needs with the goal to improve client well-being.
  • Implement counseling strategies and intervention techniques appropriate to client needs.
  • Provide crisis intervention during critical situations.
  • Attain client cases from multiple school sites to meet grant requirement.
  • Develop an aftercare plan for students and families in coordination with the CIS staff and/or school staff.

Collaborative Efforts

  • Coordinate with CIS staff and school staff to provide referrals on behalf of clients for ongoing support and mental health needs and ensure new or ongoing family and basic needs are addressed.
  • Collaborate with appropriate CIS staff and school staff to obtain client referrals and discuss case status.
  • Provide training and education relevant to emotional and mental health.
  • Attend team meetings with assigned district or school personnel to review case status reports, discuss treatment plans, case consultation and address programmatic concerns.
  • Coordinate and oversee interns assigned per university requirements.
  • Provide intern orientation regarding CIS program policies and school-based service provision.

Data Maintenance & Evaluation

  • Complete paperwork required for grant compliance.
  • Maintain sign in sheets for services, confidential data and files in accordance with CIS policy and procedures and licensure requirements.
  • Document services from sign in sheets in the CIS approved data entry system.
  • Implement, manage and report on grants.
  • Monitor and document student progress toward goals.
  • Evaluate program effectiveness.

Administrative & Professional Development

  • Manage timecard.
  • Attend all meetings and trainings as required.
  • Ensure the completion of required programmatic reports Plan appropriate expenditures and maintain budgets.
  • Maintain required licensure by participating in relevant professional development activities.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:  This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work generally are Monday through Friday, 8a.m. to 5p.m. Employees may be required to adjust daily work hours based on location/site (i.e., 7:30-4:00pm) and changes in work hours for summer, June-August (i.e., Mon-Thur 7:00am-5:30pm). This position on occasion requires long hours and weekend work.

Pay: Salary will be commensurate with years of related/relevant work experience.

Benefits: CIS-SA provides a comprehensive benefits package in addition to pay to include paid school holidays and a paid summer break (with 6 months tenure).

Travel: Travel is required to/between schools in Bexar County and some rural communities during the business day with mileage reimbursement for non-commuting travel
