Description

JOB SUMMARY:

The role of the Community School Coordinator is to implement the Community School model, through coordinated efforts with the principal, lead partner and leadership team in areas such as improving student achievement through the development and scheduling of programs to support students and their families; enhancing the home to school relationship; assisting in the development and maintenance of the school as the hub of the community; and, conducting periodic program evaluations and reports on operations and outcomes.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Implement data-driven interventions related to key priority areas which include:

Improving daily student attendance and reducing chronic absenteeism

Increasing positive student behavior

Increasing math and reading proficiency among students performing below grade level

• Work to align programs, strategies, and events with the benchmarks of community schools

• Engage parents/guardians through increased communication and family events

• Promote the Community School model in public settings to seek additional and stronger program and business partnerships

• Generate reports and share outcomes with the United Way, Communities In Schools, the building principal, the school leadership team, and additional funders/donors/educators as requested by supervisor

• Develop relationships and partnerships with neighborhood residents, community based organizations, local businesses and communities of faith to support the goals of the leadership team and the key priority areas

• Provide regular supervision on for all assigned staff and volunteers to support the operation of the community school

• Coordinate distribution of donated basic need items at the school site

• Recruit, train and supervise school based volunteers

• Manage program budgets, grant funds or contributions received to support the community school related activities

• Participate in Core Team meetings

• Serve as lead of Leadership Team

• Utilize Communities In Schools’ on-line data management system to gather, maintain and report on student academic, attendance behavioral success in school and offered programs as appropriate

• Submit reports, as directed.

• Understand all policies and procedures of the assigned school site and school district

• Participate in regular supervision and staff meetings as scheduled by Director of Operations, school leadership, and United Way

• Attend CIS events/project events, as directed by Director of Operations

• Research and apply best practices from other Community Schools and Communities In Schools sites and from local and national educational and service programs

• Serve as a well-informed ambassador in furthering the Communities In Schools mission, its goals, and programs

• Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Operations

Additional Responsibilities

• Deliver upon schedules and plans.

• Comply with agency policies and procedures and promote agency values and culture.

• May provide off-hours support.

• Perform other duties as may be assigned – this position is expected to evolve over time.

Requirements

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

• Ability to work effectively with a broad range of representatives from public and private service organizations, public education, neighborhood organizations, parent groups, and local government

• Knowledge of community resources

• Ability to manage details

• Ability to work in a team environment as well as work independently

• Proficient in standard computer programs (Microsoft or other applications)

• Ability to work effectively in changing work environment

• Highest degree of personal integrity.

• Personal initiative and resourcefulness.

• Top quality standards for own work.

• Bilingual in Spanish preferred

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Education, or related

• A minimum of 1 year experience, more experience preferable

• Experience in utilizing data to make data-driven decisions

• Experienced leadership for on-site coordination of service providers, volunteers, parents/guardians, students, and school staff

• Bilingual in Spanish and English, preferred

POSITION STRUCTURE:

• Full-time, exempt

• Schedule may vary according to programmatic needs, events and activities

• On-going employment in this capacity is dependent on availability of funding
