Position: Specialized Skills Instructor - Journey

Salary: $20 per hour
Hours: Full time, Monday-Friday 8am-4pm

Communitas is dedicated to delivering individualized, family-centered services, programs, and support for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, throughout their lifespan and in their communities.

Summary: Use technology, sign language, verbal prompting, hand-on-hand techniques, and picture boards to assist in teaching communication, social and daily living skills to individuals who may need more intense support in a small group setting. This is often done through a structured schedule of activities with an emphasis on communication and sensory needs.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Ensure activities and training for the individual enhances their Activities of Daily Living (ADL’s)
• Specialize on their specific areas for their continual improvement
• Develop and implement activities that promote personal choice, community inclusion, dignity, and respect while enhancing personal skill development.
• Provide transportation as requested by the Director
• Actively participate in interventions, provide positive, knowledgeable support to employees and managers, ensure crisis plans and behavior support plans are followed
• Provide personal care and assistance to individuals consistent with individual needs

Qualifications:

• High School diploma is required
• Bachelor’s degree in Human Services or a related field is preferred
• At least one year of experience supporting adults with developmental disabilities is preferred
• A passion and dedication to supporting our people
• A valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record
• Reliable transportation
• Must pass a CORI background check, fingerprinting, and reference check
