Job Summary

The Specialized Lead Instructor supports and guides Skills Instructors in specialized groups ensuring that employees focus on the successful completion of individuals personal goals.This is a great opportunity to join a fun team who mentor individuals to enhance independence. Successful applicants will be creative thinkers who can adapt their own interests, such as art, music and health & fitness, to teach others new things.

The pay rate for this position is $21.00 per hour. This is a full-time position working 40 hours per week. The schedule is Monday - Friday from 8:00am to 4:00pm. 

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Provide positive management to employees. This includes regular supervisions, evaluations, staff development and mentoring, as well as managing employee relations issues that arise. Ensure that disciplinary issues are addressed within the parameters of the corrective action policy and in coordination with the Program Director and Human Resources.
  • Assist in the development of the program model and provide appropriate planning and implementation of scheduling activities for group participation.
  • Ensure that Instructors are providing curriculum and trainings for individuals that enhance their Activities of Daily Living (ADL’s) and specialized service needs areas with focus on continual improvement and/or maintenance of their abilities in coordination with all relevant support plans. Assist with ADL’s as needed.
  • Coordinate with staff the development and implementation of community based activities that promote personal choice, community inclusion, dignity, and respect while enhancing personal skill development.
  • Provide group coverage when needed including active participation in interventions, providing positive, knowledgeable support to staff and managers, ensuring crisis plans and behavior support plans are followed and documented as required by regulation. Complete incident and accident reports in a manner which clearly identifies all components of the intervention and in accordance with regulatory expectations. 
  • Develop and implement community-based activities that promote independence, community inclusion, dignity, and respect while enhancing personal skill development.

Qualifications and Skills

  • High School diploma is required, a Bachelor's Degree in Human Services or a related field is preferred.
  • At least two years of experience supporting adults with developmental disabilities is preferred, a passion and dedication to supporting our people is a must.
  • A valid driver's license, acceptable driving record and reliable transportation is required.
  • Successful candidates will be required to complete a background check including references, CORI and fingerprinting.
