Commonwealth of VA Careers is Hiring a Remote UVA-VTOP Project Coordinator

The UVA Career Center is looking for a individual passionate about building and maintaining external partnerships, and also energized by engaging and supporting students through their professional development and growth.
This unique position supports two grants within the UVA Career Center. The first is a grant from the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) to stimulate public colleges and universities to develop partnerships to provide innovative paid internship opportunities for their students and the second is a grant funded by Truist Bank to engage diverse students in bi-annual finance leadership academy. The UVA-VTOP and Truist Academy Project Coordinator is a benefited, two-year, 40 hours/week position.
Background on the SCHEV Grant:UVA (in partnership with Virginia Career Works of the Piedmont) has received a grant to support internship development through VTOP ( Virginia Talent Opportunity Partnership).
The goal of the collaborative will be to cultivate internship partners in our region and also connect employers to students and assure the readiness of employers, students, and institutions to increase the number of high-quality paid internship opportunities. The strategies to fulfill this overarching goal includes:
  • Inventorying, evaluating, prioritizing, and facilitating engagement with scalable programs around internship readiness.
  • Connecting students and employers with a focus on recruiting and placing students in paid internships and other work-based learning opportunities.
  • Establishing progress and success measures that allow for assessment and monitoring of program progress.
Background on the Truist Financial Leadership Academy Grant:The UVA Career Center (in partnership with the UVA Alumni Association) has received a grant from Truist Bank to support the development and management of a financial leadership academy for diverse students.
The goal of the program will be to engage UVA students in bi-annual leadership academies that introduce students to financial services, but more importantly educate the students on career discovery through sessions that promote leadership development, self-discovery and purpose. In addition to planning, coordinating, and attending the academies (hosted in Charlotte), the team member will be responsible for:
  • Scheduling 1:1 coaching sessions with students in the academy to support their personal and professional growth.
  • Establishing and assessing program learning outcomes and success measures
  • Supporting fiscal and administrative components of the program
Reporting to the Director of Employer Relations and Experiential Learning (herein Director) in the University of Virginia Career Center, th e UVA- VTOP/Truist Academy Coordinator will serve as the UVA counterpart to the Virginia Career Works - Piedmont (VCW-P) VTOP Project Coordinator . Specific responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
  • Communications
    • Planning, designing and executing a communications plan in collaboration with the Virginia Career Works - Piedmont to ensure engagement of current and future project partners across Economic Development, HEIs, K12, and employer/community organizations.
    • Promoting recruiting events within the higher education community including support of regional institutions in their development of tailored materials and strategies.
    • Creating external facing website, marketing materials, and other print and online resources to promote the project.
    • Maintaining regular communications with the UVA Alumni Association (Ridley Scholars Program) and the Truist leadership team.
  • Employer Relationship Management
    • Hosting meetings with employers to devise internship strategies that align with processes outlined in the VTOP employer toolkit, VCW-P Career Pathways initiative, and the engagement models outlined through K-12 and HEI partners.
    • Partnering with the UVA VTOP Project Coordinator to manage a Region 9 focused Internship Advisory Board that convents quarterly to discuss internship strategies and industry outreach.
  • Project Management and Fiscal Administration
    • Ongoing fiscal management for grant expenditures including knowledge and understanding of university and state procurement policies and procedures.
    • Ongoing management of the data collection process and program evaluation, in collaboration with Virginia Career Works - Piedmont, to ensure progress and meeting project milestones.
    • Supporting administrative and fiscal responsibilities to ensure the grant budget is managed and expenses processed.
  • Event Planning
    • Convening and executing all logistics for project-related meetings with regards to the higher education community (scheduling, calendar invitations, technology management, agenda creation, creation and dissemination of minutes, sharing documents and recordings, reserving spaces, placing catering orders, etc.).
    • Assisting Virginia Career Works - Piedmont with planning and facilitation of employer orientations and H ireVA.
    • Plan and coordinate bi-annual financial leadership academies (May Term and J-term). Academies are 1-week long experiences in Charlotte.
  • Managing technology, assessment, evaluation, and grant reporting
    • Managing the development and implementation of a program assessment (to include establishment of evaluation protocols, targets, and metrics), working closely with the Virginia Career Works - Piedmont and UVA project leads and engaging stakeholder groups.
    • Managing the collaborative development and implementation of a regional experiential learning opportunity inventory, working closely with the Virginia Career Works - Piedmont and UVA project leads and engaging stakeholder groups, to be inclusive of career readiness activities occurring across partnering institutions.
    • Oversee program assessment for the Truist academies and success measures for student engagement.
The salary range for this 40 hour/week position is $48,000.00-51,000.00 commensurate with qualifications. This is a hybrid/remote (occasional days in the office for meetings) position and requires the ability to travel to visit with employers in the local region.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • One year of relevant experience ( part time experience during school or professional experience following graduation will be considered)
  • Outstanding ability to conceptualize, design and implement programs and events
  • Ability and experience building and maintaining external relationships
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills; excellent presentation skills
  • Ability to develop and manage budgets, and direct multiple projects
  • Strong office software skills (Microsoft Office: Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Multicultural awareness and ability to work in a diverse environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience in conducting cultural programming, advising, and working with diverse audiences is preferred
  • Entrepreneurial, creative, and innovative spirit; comfort with change, ambiguity, and risk in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated passion and experience in program planning and execution, group facilitation and engagement, and advising college students
  • Knowledge of trends in job and career development, economy, effective interventions, technology, and higher education networks
  • Experience with Handshake or a similar Career Services Management (CSM) System (i.e. Symplicity, CSO, other)
  • Experience working with students in a coaching or counseling environment to support professional development.
