Commonwealth of VA Careers is Hiring a Remote University Assessment Director

Under the guidance of a Compliance Director, Senior Compliance Managers are responsible for managing a group of compliance professionals, or a compliance program, such as the Institutional Review Board, Research Compliance, or Immigration Compliance, within a University office. Senior Managers use a deep knowledge of complex legal or regulatory issues impacting University operations to make decisions and judgments based upon applicable Federal and State laws and Sponsor and University policies. They may interface with governmental entities by submitting reports and other required documentation, and by handling on-site audits. They act as a designee for a Compliance Director.
Department: Institutional Research and Analytics (IRA)
Institutional Research and Analytics seeks a University Assessment Coordinator , a new role instrumental in advancing data literacy throughout the Academic Division. A unit reporting to the Office of the Provost, IRA provides accurate data, reliable information, expert analysis, and guidance on utilizing data to support the University's educational, research, and service objectives.
Reporting to the Office of the Provost, Institutional Research and Analytics (IRA) plays a critical role in providing precise data, reliable information, expert analysis, and guidance on using data to support the University's educational, research, and service objectives.
The University Assessment Director assumes an essential role in facilitating student learning outcomes assessment to support the academic mission of the University. This position provides expertise and guidance to academic units, ensuring compliance with Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) institutional accreditation and State Council for Higher Education of Virginia (SCHEV) assessment requirements. The Assessment Director collaborates with various stakeholders to develop and implement effective assessment plans and promotes the use of data-driven insights to enhance student learning. The Assessment director reports to the Associate Provost and Director, Institutional Research and Analytics.
Responsibilities:
Institutional Assessment Planning, Implementation, and Coordination (90%):
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive plan for assessing student learning outcomes across UVA's twelve schools, tailored to each discipline's assessment approach.
  • Provide expert advice to academic departments on assessment practices and collaborate with academic support units to align assessment with teaching and learning strategies.
  • Assist schools in developing and submitting effective student outcome plans to regulatory bodies such as SCHEV.
  • Manage undergraduate core competency assessments required by SCHEV, including planning, data collection, analysis, and reporting.
  • Coordinate assessment plans for SACSCOC institutional compliance, ensuring alignment with accreditation standards and facilitating the collection and review of assessment reports.
  • Collaborate with relevant units to identify and address student experience data needs, contributing to survey development, implementation, and analysis.
  • Formulate data needs to support strategic decision-making and external reviews, coordinating the reporting of findings.
Administrative Leadership and Management (10%):
  • Oversee operational and administrative issues for the office, ensuring compliance with institutional policies and procedures.
  • Lead special projects, conduct analysis, and prepare reports and communications.
  • Represent the Director at institutional and external meetings and events as needed.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 8 years' experience in higher education assessment or educational outcomes assessment.
  • Graduate degree in relevant field preferred.
  • Experience with accreditation and student learning outcomes assessment essential.
  • Proficiency in assessment management software, learning management systems, and survey software required.
  • Strong organizational skills and proficiency in data analysis.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders.
  • Experience working in a college or university with a hybrid assessment model preferred.Top of Form
This is a hybrid position, with office presence in Charlottesville, VA required on specific days (currently Tuesday through Thursday) and the option to work remotely on Monday and Friday.
The anticipated start date is May 1, 2024.
The anticipated Hiring Range: $95,000-$105,000 commensurate with education and experience.
