Job Duties
The Hampton Roads Community Empowerment Alliance (HRCEA) is seeking two part-time
student research assistants to transcribe focus group data and enter data into NVivo qualitative
software. There may be other related tasks such as filing, assisting with the scheduling of focus
group appointments as assigned, communicating with intended research respondents, and
maintaining data security. The positions are located at the Norfolk State University Ethelyn R.
Strong School of Social Work. Assistants will report to the HRCEA Project Director and the
Project Administrative Specialist.
Required Competencies:
• Skills in organizing and establishing priorities.
• Skills in planning and coordinating activities.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Knowledge and proficiency in personal computer use are required. Proficiency with Microsoft
Word applications and ability to master qualitative research software applications are necessary.

1. Research experience and/or research classes taken in undergraduate or graduate education.
